Job Summary: The Engineering Researcher II oversees engineering research projects and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day activity supporting project. Makes significant contributions to the planning and design of research and creative projects. Assists in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.
Additional Department Summary: Works within the Center for Complex Hydrosystems Research (CCHR) and the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama. Conducts research with Professor Moradkhani on a variety of projects. Leads the development of state-of-the art inverse modeling, optimization and assimilation algorithms and computational modeling useful in hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling. Develops peer-reviewed publications, data management, proposal preparation and student co-supervision. Develops and sustains sponsored research programs and seek and obtain external funding to partially support the specific research program within the College.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of engineering or closely related research experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of engineering or closely related research experience; OR doctoral degree and some engineering or closely related research experience. Post-Baccalaureate degree is highly preferred (Master’s degree or higher).
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Candidates with a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geophysics, Geoscience or closely related field and demonstrated experience in postdoctoral research will be considered. Continuation in this position is contingent upon availability of funding.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration with academics, scientists, practitioners, and students. Ability of working in a multidisciplinary environment. Ability to develop and sustain a high quality externally funded research program.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of High performance computing, machine learning. Experience in writing research proposals. Experience in programming in Python, R, Matlab; data analysis and visualization; geospatial analysis; large scale hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling; and advanced statistical modeling.
