Purpose of the Position:

The Computer Scientist II will provide geospatial and information technology assistance and specialization for the Inter Agency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) within the Lab for Applied Science (LAS) under the Earth Systems Science Center.

NASA's IMPACT Project Office monitors trends and progressions across the informatics, data science, and information technology communities in order to inform strategy and develop effective solutions for Earth science data management and dissemination. Additionally, the IMPACT Project Office provides abroad user perspective as to how NASA Earth science data and information are represented and communicated. The IMPACT project fosters cross-community collaborations in order to improve all phases of the Earth science

Duties/Responsibilities
• Perform comprehensive research. Analyze data including the cloud acquired from aircraft, or satellites, using statistical analysis software, image analysis software, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Design, develop, program and implement software and system architectures across multiple projects.
• Communicate in written and oral format with UAH and NASA IMPACT team members.
• Present at conferences.
• Write peer-reviewed publications and reports, as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field, 21 months of full-time verifiable work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
• Extensive experience in programming languages including python
• Working knowledge of cloud computing including Amazon Web Services
• Experience using data bases
• Working knowledge of machine learning
• Strong communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

• Proposal writing experience
• Experience writing peer reviewed papers

$83,996 - $89,611
