We are looking for a Senior Commercial Data Analyst to join our team. This position will support economic analysis for global commodity markets at Teck.
This role will develop, maintain, and complete various scenario-based planning exercises to further the commercial short-term and long-term planning goals. Working directly with senior management and the commercial commodity heads to deliver collectively on commercial and corporate objectives. The incumbent will work in a highly agile manner, passionate about exceeding internal customer happiness in an iterative and collaborative way. The team will operate as a pool of resources with this position leading and advising planning and scenario analysis across a variety of commodities.
Key working relationships within the Commercial group include the Chief Commercial Officer, Vice President of Marketing and Logistics, Investor Relations, Treasury, Corporate Development, the Board of Directors, and the Chief Executive Officer.
Responsibilities

Be a courageous safety leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.

Support the Senior Management Team and Executive Management Team in setting strategic objectives through the provision of forward-looking scenario analysis and insights.

Manage the annual commercial execution planning process by collecting inputs and analyzing scenarios for total value creation and commercial success.

Coordinate the annual 5-Year Plan, Annual Commercial Budget, and planning process. Ensure standards and templates are maintained, inputs are consolidated, and executive management is provided with insights and analysis.

Prepare and consolidate inputs and insights for senior management decision-making and mentorship, including scenario analysis and value drivers.

Lead the planning and forecasting process, including scenario analysis and value drivers.

Improve and assist in the development of internal databases of data and drive computer learning and modeling scenarios using internal and external resources.

Own key inputs for the annual planning and forecasting processes like commodity pricing protocols, scenario development and risk factors for corporate analysis.

Prepare insights and analysis of commercial supply and demand forecasts and budgets, including cost analysis of internal and competitive operations.

Extract value from corporate financial models and commercial planning models to support senior management in ad hoc scenario evaluation.

Deliver analysis to senior management regarding encouraged price outcomes and sensitivity to changes in key market drivers.

Develop strategic presentations and information packages to assist senior management in decision-making.

Continuously develop a comprehensive understanding of Teck’s operations and key development projects, as well as the commodities and metals mining industry.

Contribute to commercial planning initiatives by delivering initiatives through a continuous improvement approach to all planning, systems, reports, and products.
Qualifications

A degree in Business, Economics, or a related field.

5-7 years of related experience or in a role with transferable skills. Previous experience in Energy and Natural Resources, investment banking, or management consulting is advantageous.

Advanced ability to develop and interpret financial models with a strong understanding of business drivers and relevant outputs required to promote decision-making.

Expertise at gathering and synthesizing inputs, framing opportunities, and leading decision-making conversations from a fact-based position.

Develops advanced methods for supply and demand forecasting using economic and market principles.

Prioritizes relationship-building skills and is adept at working with personnel at all levels of seniority from operational areas across the Company and external organizations.

A self-starter who can prioritize multiple projects at once and work with limited direction.

Understand the industry and contribute to regional and global analysis with expertise.

A high degree of critical thinking and analytical skills.

Well-developed written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

Ability to work in a highly ambiguous environment with agility.

Able to develop hypotheses that are grounded in facts and logical assumptions that can be validated and updated throughout the analysis.

Salary Range:$103,000 - $127,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
