JOB TITLE: Head of Data Science, Client Data and Analytics

SALARY: £121,000 - £200,000 (dependent on experience and location)

LOCATIONS: London / Bristol / Edinburgh

HOURS: Full-Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

Client Data and Analytics is an exciting team which delivers AI, Machine Learning, Analytics and Innovation to the heart of Business & Commercial Banking. We accelerate the digitisation of our division, enabling its agenda to support UK businesses to grow sustainably and be the engine room of our economy.

We're looking for a Head of Data Science who can lead and champion a team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to design, develop, and deploy engaging data products and services that deliver impact for our customers and colleagues. You'll coordinate the entire lifecycle of data projects, from concept to production, and ensuring that they meet the highest standards of governance, performance, and reliability.

There is a need to demonstrate effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, showcasing thought leadership and influence. You'll prioritise commercial goals and employ technology to achieve the intended objectives.

Demonstrating the use of Google Cloud Platform capabilities while also operating across our various cloud environments and legacy data stores. This role will contribute to build enduring capability with the appropriate guardrails.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a positive culture within data science team members, ensuring alignment with divisional and group strategy.

  • Key contributor to the Data Science, Machine Learning & Generative AI roadmap for Commercial Banking, setting out project priorities into the medium-term.

  • Drives roadmap projects through to successful deployment and demonstrates the business impact of live projects

  • Constantly working with business teams to identify new project ideas, which are maintained as a backlog and fed into the delivery roadmap

  • Builds and manages relationships across the Commercial Bank, as well as operational support functions and IT delivery teams

  • Responsible for the governance, monitoring and management of live models in production

  • Works closely with data warehousing and data engineering teams to ensure the team has access to the data it needs to deliver current and future projects

  • Delivers thought leadership on the latest industry technical developments, emerging trends, new technologies, and AI to contribute to business strategy.

What You’ll Need

  • Consistent track record building and leading high performing teams.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - able to influence and demonstrate thought leadership to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Expertise in cloud computing platforms, especially Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • Proficiency in data warehousing and database technologies, such as Teradata, Hadoop, MSSQL & BigQuery

  • Good knowledge of Python and ability to establish software engineering principles in the team

  • General knowledge in containerization and orchestration tools, such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Kafka
