The team

The Asia Equity Derivatives Engineering team is a front office engineering team embedded within the revenue generating Global Banking & Markets. Our team is responsible for building the derivatives trading platform for Asia Equities. Our mission is to enable our sales and trading desks to make the best data-driven decisions they can for the business, to operate in the most efficient manner possible, and to continue growing our market share through a technology-driven business strategy.

 

Your Impact

You will build scalable and reliable full stack applications to meet the evolving needs of our business with strong emphasis on trading workflow automation and efficiency. You will be part of a team that drives full product lifecycle from requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, support and monitoring of the systems that you build. You will do so by partnering with trading, sales, quants, operations and other engineering teams. You will work within a team of individuals who are highly motivated hands-on developer with a strong interest in the business, a keen eye for innovation and a desire to have commercial impact whilst maintaining a strong appreciation for developer efficiency, testing and technical hygiene. This is a role for the technically minded individuals who thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

 

Responsibilities

• Build scalable and supportable trading platforms by understanding and soliciting requirements from sales and trading in order to design, implement, test, deploy, support and build tools to monitor the platform
• Drive and project manage the development life cycle for the platform
• Develop an in-depth understanding of Asia Equity Derivatives business, with focus on sales and trading workflow for trading a wide range of listed and OTC products such as options, convertible bonds, variance/volatility swaps and other exotics and structured products
• Form strong partnerships with trading, sales, quants, operations and other engineering teams
• Drive commercially impactful engineering projects to deliver key initiatives for Asia Equity Derivatives
• Identify opportunity to improve sales and trading efficiency through automation and tooling
• Strive for continuous improvement in scalability, stability and supportability of the platform
• Maintain a strong risk and control mindset to mitigate operational & technology risks

 

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical skills
• Experience in programming in at least one OO/scripting language (e.g. Java, Python, C++)
• Experience working with databases and datasets (modelling, querying)
• Experience in software development, including a clear understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design and core programming concepts
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills and ability to work across teams
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment whilst maintaining strong attention to detail
• Capable of working under pressure while staying commercial without compromising controls, development processes and long term supportability of systems
• Highly motivated with a strong sense of ownership and desire for impact

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a business-facing, front office engineering role in the finance industry
• Knowledge of equities markets and experience with derivatives products such as options, swaps and exotics
• Experience with building, maintaining and monitoring distributed systems in microservices architecture
• Experience with building and maintaining robust STP systems, RFQ and workflow automation
• Experience with web development stack, e.g. JavaScript/Node, React/Angular
