Job Description
Role overview
To join a team managing several products ranging from multi-asset to global, local, and African equity. This is an analyst role, building the quantitative tools and information processing to support idea generation, research process and portfolio construction. This role is an end-to-end role requiring data warehousing, processing, modelling, and outputting. These inputs will form part of the investment debate and the quantitative analyst will be expected to present and argue their views and participate in the final investment decision.
Key result areas
- Collaborate with the team in designing and implementing quantitative research studies to enhance risk and return outcomes for clients
- Investigate new ideas and relationships and translate these into actionable investment recommendations
- Present investment ideas and participate in the investment debate to internal and external clients
- Participate in the team’s AI initiatives
- Review and continuously improve screening, portfolio management and other data tools
Requirements: skills, qualifications and experience required
- At least 3 years’ experience gained in an investments / quants / modelling role
- Honors/Masters in Mathematics / Financial Mathematics / Statistics / Data Science/Engineering
- Strong programming skills in Python / R
- Experience in SQL and web development will be advantageous
- Experience in working with large data sets, and performing quantitative & statistical analysis in Advanced Excel & VBA (Barra, I-Maps & FactSet preferred)

Data Collection and Analysis
Use data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business.
Data Exploration
Conduct research and select relevant information to enable analysis of key themes and trends using primary data sources and business intelligence tools.
Advanced and Predictive Analytics
Run advanced and predictive analyses and perform model assessments, validation, and enhancement activities, using predictive analytics' software tools and functionalities.
Risk Scenario Modeling
Analyze, assess, and quantify the risks associated with products, individual applications, business activities, and the market to determine whether any risk is within the agreed risk appetite. Undertake tactical risk modeling.
Insights and Reporting
Prepare and coordinate the completion of various data and analytics reports.
Information and Business Advice
Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving queries and issues and referring very complex or contentious issues to others.
Business Performance Metrics
Lead projects or area within the realm of business performance metrics involving identification, development, and tracking of key performance indicators.
Operational Compliance
Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards. Or identify, within the team, patterns of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate.
Personal Capability Building
Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
