We are looking for a Data Scientist to join the Content Platform Insights team. Content Platform is a central enabler for the Spotify business. We deliver a complete, available and enriched catalog of music, podcasts, videos and more. We provide the knowledge graph that accumulates differentiated understandings of creators, content, their attributes and their relationships. We ensure we can readily moderate and control the catalog to ensure a safe and trusted experience for consumers and to keep our platform free of infringement.
The successful candidate will join The Cherry PI squad, which focuses on understanding the composition, growth, cost and value of our music, podcast and audiobook catalogues. We partner with the engineering teams who build, maintain and extend those catalogues to explore opportunities and risks, assess performance and set goals.
Recent and current project work by our squad has included Quantifying undesired licensor behaviour in the music catalogue, Finding podcasts with little or no value to Spotify for possible deletion, and Modeling which of our tracks are ‘background music’ or designed for children.
A key focus for the squad, and this position in 2025 will be making maximal catalogues economically viable.
Data Science work in Content Platform more broadly is characterised by a heavy focus on exploratory work in a high-ambiguity environment, an intimate knowledge of our music, podcast and audiobook catalogues, a moderate quantity of modeling work and relatively little experimentation.

What You'll Do

  • Estimate the value of individual pieces of content to find their ‘break even’ point.
  • Estimate the total cost to Spotify of ingesting, modeling and moderating a piece of content.
  • Apply modeling techniques and investigative work to identify content which does not.
  • Significantly improve our catalogues, in an environment where some licensors wish to evade detection.
  • Equip partner teams to deal with the growing tide of low value content with improved recommendations filtering, cost reduction efforts and changing licensor incentives.

Who You Are

  • Degree in data science, computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, or a similar quantitative field.
  • Coding skills (such as Python, R or similar) and a working knowledge of SQL.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (such as Tableau, Looker, Qlik Sense, matplotlib, ggplot2 or similar).
  • Ambitious person who’s capable of tackling loosely defined problems and driving strategic impact.
  • Ability to explain complex topics in simple terms, for audiences with different levels of technical knowledge.

Where You'll Be

  • This role is based in Stockholm or London.
  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home. We ask that you come in 3 times per week.
