Your Responsibilities

 

As a Data Scientist for Intelligent Solutions Group Urbandale located in Urbandale, IA, you will:

 

  • Run advanced and predictive analyses and perform model assessments, validation, and enhancement activities, using predictive analytics' software tools and functionalities.
  • Work independently to collate and analyze data using predetermined tools, methods, and formats to create standard insights.
  • Make recommendations to improve data and analytics systems and platforms, contributing to the continuous improvement and refinement of data and analytics strategy.
  • Create basic machine learning algorithms and support creation of more complex algorithms that identify patterns in structured data. Partner with different business stakeholders and internal clients to ensure the collection of data in accordance with model standards.
  • Consult and educate stakeholders on methods for streamlining and standardizing data recording to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Conduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.
  • Support collection of business requirements using a variety of methods, such as interviews, document analysis, and workflow analysis, to express requirements clearly and succinctly.
  • Contribute to the preparation of various data and analytics reports.
  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. 
  • Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

What Skills You Need

 

  • Programming: Proficient in Python and relevant libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, NumPy).
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address data quality issues.
  • Statistical Knowledge: Understanding of statistical concepts, and the ability to apply them to data analysis.
  • Machine Learning: Experience and strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, techniques, model development, and evaluation.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to independently collate, analyze, and interpret complex data using established tools and methodologies.
  • Model Assessment: Experience in performing model assessments, validation, and enhancement activities.
  • Data Visualization: Ability to create clear and informative visualizations to communicate insights.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in an agile work environment and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Data Reporting: Contributed to the preparation of various data and analytics reports.
  • MLOps: Familiarity with MLOps principles and practices for model deployment and monitoring.

 

What Makes You Stand Out

 

  • 2 plus years of experience in Data Science and Machine Learning
  • Education: PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field.
  • Big Data Technologies: Experience working with large datasets using Spark.
  • Geospatial Data: Experience working with geospatial data and related tools (e.g., GeoPandas, ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Databricks: Hands-on experience with the Databricks platform.
  • CVML: Experience with Computer Vision (CVML).
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Advanced Modeling: Experience in creating and supporting the creation of complex machine-learning algorithms.
  • Domain Expertise: Experience in agriculture and precision agriculture.
  • Research Experience: Experience conducting research using primary data sources and analyzing industry trends.
  • GenAI and Advanced AI: Familiarity with Generative AI and other advanced AI techniques.

 

Education

 

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

 

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science,  Engineering, or a related quantitative field is required.
  • A PhD in any of the above fields is highly desirable, and candidates with a PhD will be given preference.
  • Exceptional candidates with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in the aforementioned fields who possess significant and demonstrable experience in data science, particularly within the agriculture and precision agriculture domain, may be considered.
