A Brief Overview
The Director of Data Solutions will lead the IT Analytics Engineering and Data Science teams to develop, maintain, and evolve Safelite's comprehensive data warehouse infrastructure and enterprise-facing data solutions. This position will ensure data from key systems is secure, available, and modeled effectively to meet the operational and strategic needs of the company; manage a high-performing team of data experts, creating opportunities to enhance their skill sets; and drive the development of advanced data science models and analytics solutions to unlock key business initiatives. The expected result is a robust, reliable, and scalable self-service data environment that supports data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
What you will do
Guide the team through hands-on instruction in implementing and optimizing warehouse builds, workflow orchestration, and asset deployment infrastructure to streamline analytics engineering processes, accelerate speed to deployment, improve monitoring and alerting, and decrease downtime.
Manage and mentor a team of analytics engineers, data architects, and data science professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Provide technical leadership and strategic vision to guide the decommissioning of legacy data pipelines and transition to forward-looking cloud technologies, ensuring a streamlined and efficient migration process that minimizes disruption and maximizes operational efficiency.
Provide strategic guidance and build cohesiveness among data scientists and analytics engineering teams to create a robust engine for delivering data warehouse enhancements that feed data science and machine learning models.
Lead the team in analyzing customer behavior, pricing, and conversion patterns to make actionable recommendations using statistical models, data mining, and machine learning algorithms.
Guide the build-out of requisite tooling (e.g., dbt, Git) and a corresponding training curriculum to empower embedded advanced analysts throughout the organization to contribute to the enterprise data warehouse in a controlled and governed fashion.
Collaborate with Data Engineering to build out the company's BI infrastructure and strategy, enhancing governance through semantic layer implementation to ensure a single source of truth and scaled updating and version control for BI assets throughout the organization.
Collaborate with peers and leaders throughout the engineering organization to move toward a proactive, repeatable process for monitoring and integrating source system changes into downstream data pipelines and reporting assets.
Establish and maintain deployment infrastructure for machine learning assets, ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient deployment pipelines that support the operationalization of machine learning models across the organization.
Manage costs associated with running data infrastructure and operations.

Education Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, analytics, engineering, or related field Required
Experience Qualifications
10+ years hands on experience in a data engineering, data science, or analytics related role Required
4-6 years in a data leadership role, which involved creating and implementing a comprehensive data strategy; experience building and managing data engineering organizations. Required
Skills and Abilities
Deep knowledge and experience with advanced SQL concepts, including window functions, CTEs, nested queries, and other similar techniques. (High proficiency)
7+ years of hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and relational databases. (High proficiency)
Strong collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams, intuit data needs from warehouse modeling to insights delivery, and integrate solutions into business processes. (High proficiency)
Ability to align data science and analytics engineering initiatives with business goals and drive strategic decision-making. (High proficiency)
Excellent communication skills to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders. (High proficiency)
Ability to provide strategic guidance and build cohesiveness among data scientists, data architects, and analytics engineers. (High proficiency)
Experience with Python or a similar programming language, Tableau or an equivalent BI visualization tool, and Excel. (High proficiency)
Ability to collaborate through code-management/version control tools like GitHub Enterprise (for peer reviews, feature branches, resolving conflicts, and commits). (High proficiency)
Prior experience with large enterprise legacy tooling (e.g., mainframe, Informatica, Oracle Business Intelligence, Cognos). (Medium proficiency)
Exposure to data pipeline and workflow management tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster). (Medium proficiency)
Experience with script-based analytics transformation tools (e.g., dbt, AWS Glue, Talend). (Medium proficiency)
Understanding of multi-step ETL and ELT jobs/data pipelines and experience working with job scheduling systems, with the ability to reverse engineer and refactor existing technical projects. (Medium proficiency)
