The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:
 

Pay Range: $73,000.00 - $109,400.00

Job Description

The Senior Data Analyst develops data architecture and other data pathways and uses complex reporting systems that will enable leadership to make informed business decisions. Utilizes data analytics tools to design new measurement methods. This role interacts with leaders and data analysts across the organization to continuously analyze and improve performance and student outcomes. This includes a deep analysis of learner profiles, student learning patterns, academic and career outcomes, and course and learning resource quality.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Build, develop, and maintain data models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards and performance metrics that support key business decisions. 
  • Utilize strong analytical and product management skills to gain a thorough understanding of department technology needs and translate these into specific initiatives and short- and long-range plans.
  • Analyzes and interprets diverse sets using a variety of statistical methods.
  • Uses various data analytics tools to clean, manipulate, and transform data for analysis.
  • Reports, explains, and presents statistical analyses using graphs, charts, and tables.
  • Uses understanding of data collection to design and implement new methods of measurement.
  • Stays informed of emerging trends in data science. Clearly communicates with users to assess needs and requirements for data products.
  • Designs and maintains visualization dashboards.
  • Pitches value of potential data products using functioning proofs-of-concept.
  • Works across academic colleges and programs to provide valuable data-informed insights on trends of performance metrics.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Strong written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain the significance of data and trends to stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently while working in a team environment.
  • Ability to use SAS, R, or Python to run multivariate and other statistical analyses.
  • Ability to create data dashboards and visuals using a tool like Tableau.
  • Ability to create datasets for analysis & reporting using SQL, Python, R, or Scala.
  • Ability to explain analysis results to non-technical audience.
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing data projects.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, a closely related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience in data analysis and visualization, building dynamic, interactive dashboards, and working with relational databases. Department Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Broad knowledge of project management

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Work Location

Work location is determined by role and business needs. In addition to our headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT, we have several satellite locations across the US. Senior leadership, administrative functions, and technology teams are typically assigned to work in one of our office locations. While this position will begin with a Remote/Work-From-Home designation, this position will work "In-Office" once a dedicated space in Nashville, TN is established.
