Job Description

  • Senior Data Scientist

At the Oklahoma Workforce Commission, we rely on insightful data to power our systems and solutions. We are looking for a talented and experienced Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. As a Data Scientist, you will leverage your analytical skills and expertise in machine learning to extract insights from complex datasets and drive data-driven decision-making across our organization. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop predictive models, uncover actionable insights, and solve

challenging business problems.

Responsibilities

  • Data mining or extracting usable data from valuable data sources; gathering data from various sources, including databases, APIs, and web scraping, ensuring data quality and relevance.
  • Using machine learning tools to select features, create and optimize classifiers; selecting and applying appropriate machine learning algorithms to build predictive models based on the data. Implement clustering, classification, regression, and other machine learning algorithms as needed.
  • Assessing the performance of models using metrics and fine-tuning parameters for better accuracy.
  • Carrying out the preprocessing of structured and unstructured data
  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include all relevant information for developing analytic systems
  • Processing, cleansing, and validating the integrity of data to be used for analysis
  • Analyzing large amounts of information to find patterns and solutions
  • Developing prediction systems and machine learning algorithms
  • Presenting results in a clear manner developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
  • Propose solutions and strategies to tackle business challenges
  • Create queries, stored procedures, functions and data exports and imports; performs other data management processes utilizing database protocols.
  • Confer with computer operations, technical support, user and vendor representatives concerning database requirements, system performance, software maintenance, capacity planning, and data security requirements.
  • Reviews systems specifications for compliance with departmental, division and data base administration standards.
  • Respond to database operational emergencies as required
  • Skills

  • Programming Skills – knowledge of statistical programming languages like R, Python, and database query languages like SQL, Hive, Pig is desirable. Familiarity with Scala, Java, or C++ is an added advantage.
  • Statistics – Good applied statistical skills, including knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression, maximum likelihood estimators, etc. Proficiency in statistics is essential for data-driven decisions.
  • Machine Learning – good knowledge of machine learning methods like k-Nearest Neighbors, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests.
  • Strong Math Skills - understanding the fundamentals of Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra is important as they form the basis of a lot of predictive performance or algorithm optimization techniques.
  • Data Wrangling – proficiency in handling imperfections in data is an important aspect of a data scientist job description.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, ggplot, d3.js., Tableau, SQL, ect.)
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science (e.g., Python, R, etc.)
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, scikit-learn, PyTorch, etc.)
  • Excellent Communication Skills – it is incredibly important to describe findings to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Strong Software Engineering Background
  • Hands-on experience with data science tools
  • Problem-solving aptitude
  • Analytical mind and great business sense
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field is preferred
  • Five or more years of experience in data science
