Internship Opportunity

We have a new internship opportunity in the summer of 2025, at the Arrowhead headquarters office in downtown San Diego. As a CAT Risk Intern, you'll have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in hands-on experience with catastrophe modeling, risk analytics, and exposure management through Arrowhead's business operations both within the US and internationally.

The intern will be supervised by the VP of CAT management, and work with modelers, actuaries, underwriters, and data scientists, within the Data & Analytics Group and across Arrowhead offices. Students with backgrounds in meteorology, weather, wind, or fire are encouraged to apply.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Help improve the understanding of extreme weather-related perils, e.g., hurricane, tornado, wildfire, flood.
  • Perform research by examining both academic and industry publications, as well as assessing vendor and open-source models, to assist business stakeholders in better managing and mitigating peril risks.
  • Compile reports for peril/hazard analysis, industry/market research, catastrophe events, and communicate findings.
  • Assist in other modeling/analytics projects, product development/filing, or CAT event response.

Desired Education and Competencies

  • Graduate (preferred) or undergraduate student with backgrounds in meteorology, climate science, hydrology/hydraulic, wind engineering, fire engineering, or related disciplines with quantitative focus is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Open and enthusiastic in learning new knowledge, positive and can-do attitude.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience in programming and data analysis (SQL, R, Python, Excel, VBA)
  • Working knowledge of statistics, insurance, mapping/GIS is a plus.

Location

Arrowhead headquarters office in downtown San Diego.

Pay Range

25.00 - 25.00 Hourly

The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
