Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.The Launch and Missile Defense Systems division within Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Algorithms Software Engineer with Linux environment and software development exposure to join the BOA/ESL Algorithms team. The BOA program leverages OPIR data in supporting the software development and analysis of specialized combat systems that are providing advanced algorithms to improve tracking, prediction, and discrimination capabilities for emerging threats worldwide. The position is located in Boulder, CO – Boulder is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and only 25 miles from downtown Denver.
Position Overview:
As an Algorithm Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, analyzing, testing, and implementing extendable / reusable algorithms to improve missile tracking capabilities. You are expected to communicate technical information effectively and clearly, and present technical approaches and findings.
Essential Functions:
- Breadth and depth in the application of mathematics to perform data analysis and algorithm development for missile tracking applications.
- Development and performance analysis of tracking and state estimation algorithms.
- Tool and prototype development using Modern C++ and Python.
- Algorithm defect tracking and resolution.
- Technical Documentation as required.
- Work in cross-discipline teams and communicate clearly across various levels of engineers.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience or a Master’s degree and 0 years of experience.
- Applicants must have Linux experience and working knowledge of common utilities like grep, awk, cat head, etc.
- Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years development experience with the following C/C++.
- Algorithm design and state estimation experience is required.
- Experience with data analysis - Population statistics and trend identification.
- Ability to bridge between theoretical concepts and practical implementation.
- Experience with numerical computing (numerical linear algebra, differential equations, optimization (combinatorial and non-linear), and statistics.
- Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs.
- Applicants must have an active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong statistical background and skills.
- Experience in tracking and prediction algorithms, simulation, and validation.
- Experience with multiple hypothesis tracking.
- Experience in the numerical implementation of motion filters.
- Familiarity with Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) and Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) sensors and simulations is a plus.
