About the Team

Our Forensic Team assists clients in detecting and responding to fraud, bribery, corruption, money laundering, misconduct, and other financial crime issues, as well as resolving commercial disputes. We help clients protect their businesses by identifying discrepancies in facts and figures, non-compliant behaviours, and advising on legal and regulatory requirements. Applying forensic techniques, investigation, intelligence, technology, and industry expertise, we help prevent and resolve commercial disputes, fraud, misconduct, and regulatory breaches.

Your Opportunity:

As a Forensic Data Analytics Manager at KPMG, you will play a pivotal role in helping our clients calculate and compensate for breaches of law, policy, or standards. You will be leveraging your extensive experience in business analysis, data investigation, and analytic skills to identify, investigate, quantify, and report on various issues such as financial errors, regulatory non-compliance, and wage underpayment. You will work with a diverse team of data analysts providing technical and project management support to ensure the successful delivery of our services.

Examples of projects you could be involved with include:

  • Conduct investigations and calculate reimbursements for customers of a large bank who were erroneously charged fees by the bank.
  • Assess non-compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including those under AML/CTF legislation such as IFTI, SMR, and TTR.
  • Calculate and remediate issues related to underpayment of wage or other work entitlements.
  • Support fraud and misconduct investigations with data analytics and visualisation.
  • Develop logic to monitor transactions for fraud, bribery, corruption, collusion, anti-money laundering, and terrorism financing.
  • Utilise data analytics to support economic loss assessments in legal disputes.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate business problems and establish clear business requirements.
  • Identify relevant data sources and evidence to support analysis.
  • Develop and agree upon identification/calculation methodologies.
  • Review data quality and identify impacted cohorts.
  • Develop SQL scripts to determine facts and calculate remediation payments based on business requirements.
  • Conduct testing and analyse root causes and potential fixes.
  • Document results and prepare working papers and reports to support analysis.
  • Support proposal development and other business development activities.
  • Assist in developing internal data analytics assets and tools.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to team members.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in roles such as SQL data analyst, business intelligence developer, technical business analyst, data modeller, data analytics consultant, or similar positions.
  • Proven track record of leading small teams of data analysts, including task assignment and quality review.
  • Skilled in translating complex business and legal requirements into technical specifications for analysis.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with remediation programs (in either wage underpayments, customer or financial crime remediation) highly regarded.
  • Background in financial services or professional services is preferred.

Qualifications

Desired tertiary qualifications in a combination of business disciplines (e.g., finance, accounting, law) and technical disciplines (e.g., engineering, IT, computing).
