About the Team

Our Forensic Team assists clients in detecting and responding to fraud, bribery, corruption, money laundering, misconduct, and other financial crime issues, as well as resolving commercial disputes. We help clients protect their businesses by identifying discrepancies in facts and figures, non-compliant behaviours, and advising on legal and regulatory requirements. Applying forensic techniques, investigation, intelligence, technology, and industry expertise, we help prevent and resolve commercial disputes, fraud, misconduct, and regulatory breaches.

Your Opportunity

We have an opportunity in our Melbourne or Sydney forensic data analytics practice for an Associate Director. You will work with top-tier clients, investigating, quantifying, and remediating matters of wage compliance, financial crime, fraud / misconduct, and other irregularities.

Examples of projects you could be involved with include:

  • Conduct investigations and calculate reimbursements for customers of a large bank who were erroneously charged fees by the bank.
  • Assess non-compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including those under AML/CTF legislation such as IFTI, SMR, and TTR.
  • Calculate and remediate issues related to underpayment of wage or other work entitlements.
  • Support fraud and misconduct investigations with data analytics and visualisation.
  • Develop logic to monitor transactions for fraud, bribery, corruption, collusion, anti-money laundering, and terrorism financing. Utilise data analytics to support economic loss assessments in legal disputes

Responsibilities

  • Work with leading global organisations, regulators, and law firms to document requirements for identifying, investigating, and analysing business processes, functions, and control frameworks.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop approaches to solve complex problems, using a pragmatic, data-driven approach to support decision-making.
  • Provide technical leadership on client projects, translating requirements into analytical approaches and data models, coaching and mentoring junior analysts, and reviewing analytical code written in SQL.
  • Manage client relationships and project timelines, including creation of project plans, status reporting, and escalating open issues or risks.
  • Present analytical findings and methodologies to clients.
  • Draft clear and concise business reports, recording assumptions, decisions, methodology, and results.
  • Conduct quality assurance to ensure quality of analysis delivered by team members.
  • Manage day-to-day engagement activities, including budgeting, billing, client liaison, data and documentation analysis, and managing junior team members.
  • Support business development activities, including proposal development.

Experience and Skills

  • Extensive work experience as a data analytics consultant, data analyst, SQL developer, business analyst, or related role.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SQL.
  • Experience leading small teams, developing methodologies, designing models, assigning tasks, and conducting quality reviews.
  • Experience in legal analytics, loss quantification, remediation, wage compliance or financial crime analytics is ideal but not necessary.
  • Professional services experience is highly regarded.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills, with the initiative to work out solutions independently.
  • Proficient in quantitative analysis and excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate analysis to a non-technical audience.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguous situations and crafting well-supported solutions to complex business problems

Qualifications

  • Desired tertiary qualifications in a combination of business disciplines (e.g., finance, accounting, law) and technical disciplines (e.g., engineering, IT, computing).
