We approach every...Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a Senior Computer Scientist to join the Systems Modeling, Analysis, and Research Technologies (SMART) group in the Health Effects, Analytics, Risk, and Technology (HEART) Directorate of the Algorithms, Modeling and Assessments (AMA) Division. The candidate will support the growth and development of AI-focused business lines with current and future customers in the federal government and industry. This role will require significant technical leadership, a strong desire to build productive collaborations with other researchers in the AMA Division (and, generally, in ARA), a passion for technical innovation, and a willingness to hone business development skills. The candidate will be directly involved in the development and execution of successful business development strategies, marketing federal clients, and developing key sections of technical proposals. Ultimately, the candidate is expected to lead a research team that will include, but is not limited to, the application of AI methods in facilitating more efficient human-machine interactions.
Due to the nature of work, qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead multidisciplinary science and engineering teams to develop innovative approaches in the application of AI techniques to a wide range of technical problems.
- Provide expertise and technical leadership in computer/cognitive science, mentoring junior staff in the appropriate application of methods.
- Contribute to and lead business development activities and proposal writing, developing technical approaches in response to proposal requirements, and communicating complex concepts to a wide range of audiences.
- Work closely with the SMART Group Leader and other senior staff in creating new business lines involving advanced techniques in hybrid applications that integrate AI with mechanistic physiological and behavioral models.
- Develop documentation of methods and models for internal use, as well as for deliverables requested by our clients.
- Prepare publications for submission to scientific journals.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelors in computer science, with a focus on cognitive science.
- Demonstrated experience as a Principal Investigator.
- Demonstrated experience in AI/ML, NLP, and deep learning techniques.
- Demonstrated experience with ARCADIA.
- Experience with programming languages, for example, Python, Java, C/C++, Javascript.
- Experience with frameworks and development tools, for example, ROS, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, DIARC, Subversion, Git.
- Experience with research tools such as R, RStudio, LaTeX, matplotlib, Qualtrics.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in the integration of computer and cognitive sciences.
- Willingness to develop and grow current and new business lines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- US Secret security clearance.
Desired Qualifications
- Masters in computer science with 6-8 years of experience.
- Doctor of Philosophy in computer science with 3-5 years of experience.
