Your opportunity:

Our Digital & Information group have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer with experience working in large, data-rich organisations to join our Data and Performance team within our newly established Digital Experience and Operations branch.

Digital & Information is responsible for digitally enabling Urban Utilities today and digitally transforming future capability to enable provision of digital services to our customers, community and people. The group is accountable to formulate and execute Urban Utilities’ digital & data strategy, deliver Urban Utilities digital portfolio and provide day-to-day operations of information technology (IT), operating technology (OT), data, and the Internet of Things (IOT), including security, infrastructure management, system administration, network operations, and support services.

The Senior Data Engineer plays a pivotal role in the management, oversight and support of Enterprise-wide data management systems including the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and reporting platforms. Urban Utilities Staff and Customers rely on the business insights and performance data that can be derived from our Data and Performance team’s systems. About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

  • Demonstration of training / certifications in Microsoft Azure and relevant data programming technologies

  • Demonstrated experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Server, and data pipeline management.

  • Significant understanding of version control and DevOps (GitHub, Azure DevOps, or similar).

  • Proficiency in SQL, Scala, Python, or R; Exposure to Databricks is advantageous

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional team members, within Digital & Information, and business subject area experts.

  • Familiarity with support functions and ITIL standards for Incident and Requests response, and the ability to problem solve system and data issues working with internal customers.

  • Though not a primary requirement of the position, exposure to Microsoft Power BI / Microsoft Fabric would be beneficial, due to overlapping responsibilities and work management within the Data & Performance team.

  • Ability to meet security clearance/SOCI requirements.

Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner. The remuneration for the role has been calculated to include compensation for the requirement to remain available to perform work during on call periods and for the performance of work outside the ordinary hours of work as part of on call processes and otherwise. In some instances, additional compensation and remuneration may apply.
