The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is the research division of the company. ATG’s mission is to look ahead, deliver insights, and innovate technological solutions that will fuel Dolby’s continued growth. Our researchers have a broad range of expertise related to computer science and electrical engineering, such as AI/ML, algorithms, digital signal processing, audio engineering, image processing, computer vision, data science & analytics, distributed systems, cloud, edge & mobile computing, computer networking, and IoT.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for a talented Technical Project Manager in our Advanced Technology Group (ATG) who is excited to advance the state of the art in technologies of interest to Dolby as well as the human society at large.

You will serve as a vital link between our researchers and the Business Group (BG) teams, ensuring that agreements and expectations are effectively managed and executed.

In this role, you will advocate for multiple people and teams while working at the intersection of numerous inbound workstreams. This unique position provides you with a comprehensive view of the current research landscape, enabling you to:

  • Identify what needs to be done and why progress is or isn’t being made
  • Recognize obstacles and help teams overcome bottlenecks
  • Determine the key relationships necessary to drive success

Your ability to navigate these complexities will be essential in facilitating collaboration and ensuring impactful outcomes.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Accelerate Research Execution: Support ATG leaders in facilitating effective decision-making, determining the best course of action, and tracking the progress of BG project deliverables to influence the pace at which research is addressed by engineering teams.
  • Risk & Dependency Management: Proactively identify and oversee BG enablement project deliverables, risks, dependencies, and constraints while proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Technology/Research and product teams to resolve roadblocks that ATG teams face in conducting research and transferring technology to BG.
  • Strategic Portfolio Management: Take a portfolio-level view to prioritize activities, optimize outcomes, and accelerate research technology delivery. Provide regular program status updates.
  • Process Optimization: Develop a deep understanding of Dolby’s technologies and processes to identify and implement beneficial changes. Collaborate with BG program management teams to address and eliminate gaps in the delivery process.
  • Enablement & Training: Champion the adoption of ATG’s enablement workflow and actively address training and implementation gaps.
  • Standardization & Efficiency: Drive standardization efforts where solving once provides widespread benefits—such as technology transfers, problem management, and process/tool standardization. Prioritize lightweight changes that accumulate into significant impact over time.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years in engineering or project management within R&D/engineering environments.
    • 2+ years of software development experience, with proficiency in SQL, JavaScript, or Python.
    • 3+ years of project management experience, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and critical path management.
  • Technical & Project Management Expertise:
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with highly technical engineering teams, ensuring successful delivery against backlogs.
    • Strong track record of working with key stakeholders and cross-functional product teams to manage projects, build processes, and coordinate release schedules.
    • Hands-on experience with project management methodologies (PMP or similar certification preferred).
    • Experience designing, implementing, and driving adoption of organizational processes and leading change management.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities, with a data-driven and customer-first approach to decision-making.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize and convey strategic issues concisely and engage effectively across all levels of an organization.
    • Self-starter with strong prioritization skills, capable of navigating fast-paced environments with shifting objectives.
  • Tools & Technologies:
    • Proficiency in programming/customizing Jira, Smartsheet, Wikis, and MS Office tools (experience with Airtable or Quickbase is a plus).
    • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS is highly desirable.
