Under general direction, acts as a technical expert who consults on highly complex underwriting digital products. Responsible for the analysis, development and execution of complex data solutions, in order to manage the information lifecycle needs of an organization. Collects, integrates and analyzes organizational data with the purpose of drawing conclusions about that information. Develops, constructs, tests and maintains data architectures for data platform, database, analytical/reporting, or data science systems. Establishes and builds data systems including providing standards, policies, practice, procedures, governance and quality assurance for data deliverables. Recommends methods to improve data reliability, quality, and efficiency. Devises or modifies procedures to solve technical problems. Leads and directs the work of team members. May mentor junior team members.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the product teams to understand their data-related requirements, such as data sources, data transformations, and data quality needs. Translating these requirements into technical specifications and develop data models accordingly.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains data pipelines that move and transform data from various sources to the target systems. This involves working with different data integration tools, programming languages, and frameworks.
  • Ensure that data pipelines are optimized for performance and scalability. Monitor and tune the pipelines to improve data processing speeds, reduce latency, and enhance overall system efficiency.
  • Implements data quality checks, validations, and data governance processes to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity. Works closely with the Product teams to address data quality issues and resolve any data-related anomalies or errors along with reducing costs due by identifying and eliminating duplication of resources.
  • Provides documentation and training to help the team understand and utilize the data infrastructure and tools effectively. Also provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for data-related issues.
  • In addition to these general requirements, addressing the critical multi-year needs for enabling Risk Proposal and Issuance will be a priority for the Principal Data Engineer. These needs include API design constructs, standardization of canonical naming conventions, assisting with ADDR for forms, proposals, transactions, database selection and optimization, addressing Data Lake gaps and pain points, simplifying Agreement API understanding, and providing strategic guidance for replacing legacy database technologies and splitting out shared databases.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor or Master`s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience, technical degree preferred
    • Generally 8+ years of professional experience
    • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies
    • In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles
    • Knowledgeable in data engineering languages and tools; proficient in new and emerging technologies
    • In-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs; in-depth understanding of shared data engineering concepts and product features, as well as security minded
    • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies; in-depth understanding of global business and technology trends and the financial services industry
    • Highly developed negotiation, consensus building & influencing skills, facilitation and the adaptability to respond to change quickly
    • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills
    • Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization
