This is a unique opportunity to leverage your data developer skills and contribute to AIMCo's data modernization journey, enabling data-driven decisions through advanced analytics techniques. The Data & AI group is a highly skilled team passionate about the entire data lifecycle and empowering AIMCo to realize its full analytical potential. This learning-focused group is committed to building a modern data platform, cross-training others, and leveraging platform development expertise to elevate the skill profile across the organization.

We are seeking someone knowledgeable about the data life cycle to support our teams in enhancing system architecture and building the modern data platform at AIMCo. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines, data models, and data analysis solutions on cloud platforms. Under the guidance of senior developers, data architects, and data scientists, you will ensure data is integrated effectively, efficiently, and securely across the organization. Your passion for data and intellectual curiosity will enable you to assist others, find efficiencies, and explore new and creative ways to use data in various domains.

This is a 4-month, full-time term from May 2025 through August 2025, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:
  • Support team in developing data pipelines to extract, load, and transform data from various sources into cloud-based data warehouses and data lakes.

  • Learn how to implement data processing workflows that are highly optimized for their cloud-native environment.

  • Collaborate with senior developers and data architects to design and implement scalable and reliable data architectures on cloud platforms.

  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining the performance of cloud-based data warehouses and data pipelines, troubleshoot issues, and optimize query performance.

  • Work with data analysts to understand data requirements and design data models that enable effective reporting and analysis.

  • Provide support services to internal clients including root-cause analysis, debugging, training, and consultation services.

  • Increase data awareness and quality by providing internal training.

Our Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines.

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity, and collaboration, and inspires the same in others.

  • Experience with Cloud Platform services such as Azure and Azure Data Factory

  • Demonstrated coding skills in Python, SQL and knowledge of software engineering principles around testing, code reviews, and deployment.

  • Experience in data modeling and Data transformation technologies such as dbt will be an asset.

  • Exposure to Business Intelligence visualization software like Microsoft Power BI, TIBCO Spotfire, Tableau, etc. is a desirable asset.

  • Experience working with DevOps pipelines continuous integration/delivery, and automated testing (unit, functional, performance)

  • Database architecture, design, implementation, and operations experience is an asset. 

  • Able to present ideas to internal client groups and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.  

  • Prioritization skills, acute attention to detail with demonstrated experience analyzing and implementing data quality solutions.

As the successful Student in the Data and AI group, you will complete your work term with a sense of pride and accomplishment regarding all the new skills and knowledge you were able to attain. The connections you will build within and outside of the team should be able to rave about all the great work you did to make the jobs of others more streamlined and effective.
