Huawei’s Nuremberg Research Center is responsible for Network Energy Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning.

The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within the Huawei’s Nuremberg Research Center is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

Intern / Working Student in AI-Based Battery and Energy Storage Applications (m/f/d)

Your mission

In the rapidly advancing field of battery and energy storage systems, AI-driven algorithms are increasingly critical for optimizing performance, predicting behaviors, and enhancing system efficiency. As an intern in our team, you will focus on developing AI-based algorithms for handling time series data, specifically tailored for battery management systems and energy storage applications. Your work will help drive forward the use of cutting-edge techniques in real-time data analysis and predictive modeling in the energy sector.

Possible responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing AI-based algorithms for time series data analysis, with a focus on battery and energy storage applications.
  • Applying modern machine learning and deep learning methods, including but not limited to recurrent neural networks (RNNs), LSTMs, and transformer models.
  • Analyzing large datasets to identify trends and predict system behaviors such as State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of energy storage systems.
  • Working with sensor data and time-series information to develop models that can be deployed in real-world energy storage systems.
  • Collaborating with research teams to refine and optimize models for real-time applications in battery management.

Your areas of expertise:

  • You are enrolled as a master’s student in fields such as electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related area, with a strong foundation in AI and machine learning.
  • Solid programming skills, especially in Python, with experience in data manipulation, machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras), and time series analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of AI algorithms and models, particularly those suited to time-series data, with an emphasis on battery or energy storage applications.
  • Familiarity with tools and frameworks for handling large datasets and time-series data, such as pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn.
  • A solid understanding of neural networks, deep learning principles, and the training of models for time-series prediction.
  • Knowledge of energy storage technologies and their challenges is a plus.
  • You have good communication skills and enjoy working collaboratively in a research-driven team.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required.
