The Clinical Sciences Imaging Biomarkers group at Biogen aims to discover, develop, implement, and interpret biomedical imaging studies in support of decision-making for clinical trials within neurology and neuropsychiatric therapeutic areas. Modern biomedical imaging delivers rich data sets from which hypotheses may be generated or tested to better understand potential drug effects and guide future clinical trial protocols.

The team is seeking a motivated co-op to assist in one or more projects related to image data analysis leveraging existing clinical trial data and/or research on novel image analysis tools for potential use in future clinical trials.

Qualifications

We are seeking a highly motivated co-op to complete a discovery-based project focused on the development of next generation neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disease image biomarkers. As a co-op, you may:

  • Navigate image databases
  • Collate and document image analyses performed across clinical trials

  • Interpret results in reference to trial objectives and relevant academic literature
  • Perform literature reviews, interpret data, and make scientific recommendations
  • Prepare and present results within Biogen to different stakeholders
  • Develop abstracts or other publications for external audiences

You will be required to interact effectively and efficiently within the cross-functional environment at Biogen as well as external research teams. You will work independently and, also collaboratively, with other team members in the Biomarkers group.

  • Experience with scientific computing/programming via Shell scripting, python, MATLAB/octave, C/C++, R, or related languages
  • Undergraduate and master's-level applicants must have completed coursework in upper-level mathematics, computer programming, statistics, biology, and/or physiology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Well-organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred skills

  • Familiarity with common medical image analysis software and tools is a plus: FreeSurfer, SPM, AFNI, FSL, or related software/tools
  • Experience with PET kinetic modelling software such as PMOD, MIAKAT, AMIDE or others
  • Data visualization experience
  • Hands-on MRI and/or PET imaging data collection
  • Knowledge of therapeutic areas in neurology or neuropsychiatry

Education

The ideal candidate will be a PhD-student in Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Neuropsychology, or related fields, with experience in MRI or PET imaging or image data analysis.
