About the role

Join us as a Business Intelligence Intern and gain hands-on experience in business intelligence, data analytics and reporting products development at one of the largest publishers of education and research content.
The Springer Nature Opening Doors internship -Business Intelligence Data Analyst, is a paid opportunity in The Netherlands to gain experience in research and science news publishing in our journals, books or magazines.

The successful applicant will spend up to six months within the Business Intelligence team, part of the Publishing Performance and Intelligence group, a Research Publishing division of Springer Nature. If selected for this internship, you will:
Leverage Data Analytics: Analyze large datasets to uncover trends, patterns and actionable insights that can improve the efficiency of the publishing process
Monitor and Report: Build and refine dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators, such as turnaround times (TATs), across different journals, ensuring that stakeholders have real time visibility into operational performance.
Utilize Business Intelligence Tools: Develop interactive dashboards with real-time performance insights
Streamline Processes: Use data-driven insights to recommend improvements for speeding up article publication workflows, enhancing the experience for authors and editorial teams
Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with publishing, production, and editorial teams to implement solutions that optimize workflows and create a seamless publishing process.
Support Decision-Making: Provide detailed analyses that help stakeholders make smarter, data-backed decisions to drive continuous process improvement.
Champion Diversity and Inclusion: Participate in initiatives and projects that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in research publishing, using data to track progress and outcomes.

About us:
The Business Intelligence and Change Management team plays a key role in optimizing publication speeds and ensuring an efficient flow of articles through the submission, review, and production processes. As part of the Business Intelligence and Change Management department, one team – Article Pipeline team - focuses on analyzing turnaround times, identifying process improvements, and implementing changes that enhance the experience for authors while aligning with Springer Nature’s broader business objectives.
About you:
Currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD program, or a recent graduate, preferably in data analytics, data science, computer science, or a related field
Available to start in June 2025 for an internship of up to six months
A working knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, charts, basic to advanced formulas) and PowerPoint for data visualization and presentation.
An interest in data analysis tools and techniques, familiarity with or experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Looker, Tableau or similar tools, and some SQL knowledge (using Google Big Query) are a plus, but we welcome candidates to learn and grow in these areas.
A passion for using data to drive impact
Proficient in English and eligible to live and work in the Netherlands
Comfortable commuting to our Dordrecht office at least twice per week
Enthusiastic about contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the publishing industry
Analytical and detail-oriented, with the interest in data visualization, reporting and creating impactful dashboards
Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and present findings to stakeholders
