Postdoctoral Appointee — Visualization and Analysis

The Argonne Leadership Computing Facility’s (ALCF) mission is to accelerate major scientific discoveries and engineering breakthroughs for humanity by designing and providing world-leading computing facilities in partnership with the computational science community. We help researchers solve some of the world’s largest and most complex problems with our unique combination of supercomputing resources and computational science expertise.

The ALCF has an opening for a postdoctoral position with our scientific visualization and analysis team. The focus is on developing innovative methods for intuitive and adaptive interaction with complex data. The candidate will advance techniques in visualization, data analysis, and high-performance computing (HPC), integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) to enhance visualization and analysis. Responsibilities include conducting research, optimizing visualization algorithms, applying AI-driven approaches, collaborating across disciplines, contributing to open-source frameworks, and publishing in high-impact journals.

Position Requirements

Required skills and qualifications:

• A Ph.D. (completed within 5 years or soon to be completed) in Computer Science, Computational Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience in scientific visualization, computer graphics, or advanced rendering.
  Strong background in HPC, parallel computing, and large-scale data analysis.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or similar languages.
• Ability to conduct independent research and collaborate in interdisciplinary teams.
• Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

• Experience with AI-driven visualization techniques and scientific workflows.
• Familiarity with visualization frameworks such as VTK, ParaView, or VisIt.
• Background in human-computer interaction, adaptive visualization interfaces, or LLM applications in visualization.

The expected hiring range for this position is $70,758.00 - $110,379.55.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
