Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Operations and Engineering Optimization Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals and enhance efficiency, performance, and automation across IT and engineering operations. The ideal candidate will support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The candidate will focus on process improvement, system optimization, and automation of operational workflows to maximize productivity and reduce costs. The ideal candidate will have experience in IT operations, engineering systems, data analytics, and process automation, with a strong ability to analyze and improve workflows across infrastructure, applications, and business operations.

 

Day to Day Work Responsibilities:

 

Operational Efficiency & Process Optimization:

  • Analyze IT operations, engineering processes, and workflows to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and other optimization methodologies to improve system reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Develop and implement performance metrics and KPIs to measure operational success.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to improve collaboration, system performance, and cost efficiency.

Automation & System Optimization:

  • Design and implement automation scripts and tools to streamline operational tasks and engineering workflows.
  • Utilize AI, machine learning, and data analytics to drive predictive maintenance and operational insights.
  • Optimize IT infrastructure, cloud environments, and engineering systems to improve scalability and performance.
  • Work with DevOps and IT teams to improve CI/CD pipelines, monitoring systems, and ITSM processes.

Performance Monitoring & Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity planning to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot IT and engineering system issues, implementing proactive solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure optimization efforts align with security best practices.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Research and implement emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement solutions for recurring issues.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in engineering and IT operations.

Documentation & Training:

  • Develop and maintain documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process maps.
  • Provide training and mentorship to teams on new optimization initiatives and automation tools.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors degree and 2 years of experience or a Masters degree and 0 years of experience or a High School diploma and 6 years of experience. 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public trust clearance.
  • Experience in IT operations, systems engineering, or process optimization. 
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and engineering systems.
  • Experience with process automation tools (Ansible, PowerShell, Python, Terraform, etc.).
  • Understanding of ITIL, Lean, Six Sigma, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with monitoring tools (Solarwinds, Splunk, SCOM, etc.).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Certifications & Skills:

 

  • ITIL Foundation Certification (for IT service management best practices, must obtain within 30 days of employment).
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher (for process optimization).
  • DevOps or Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with AI and data analytics for operational insights.

Target Salary Range

$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
