In this role, you will be working with a team of extremely talented and motivated individuals who are building the future of Power Automate. You will be expected to architect, design and implement highly scalable and reliable AI solutions, including but not limited to application of LLMs/SLM to business problems, fine-tuning models to solve the hardest problems, prompt-engineering with advance techniques for Retrieval Augmented Generation and orchestration between cutting-edge frontier models.  This is transformative work for the product in close collaboration with the engineering and product teams. 

Responsibilities

As a Principal Data Scientist in Power Automate, you will:  

  • Lead data science efforts in Power Automate. 
  • Translate business requirements into concrete deliverables, including design, development, testing, and deployment of analytical solutions and scalable AI/ML solutions covering data-set preparation, prompt-engineering, model fine-tuning and agentic model orchestration.  
  • Collaborate with a team of highly capable and motivated engineers, product managers and data scientists to deliver end-to-end systems and experiences. 
  • Model, coach and drive operational excellence for AI features. 
  • Infuse and cultivate a culture of data science and AI across the team. 
  • Bring structure to problems, decomposing them into scalable solutions that drive measurable business impact. 
  • Deliver high quality features with agility.  
  • Incubate and prototype AI features with emerging technologies, latest AI models and frameworks.  

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

           o  OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

          o OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 10+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

           o OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in C#, C++, Java or Python.  
  • 3+ years people-management experience.

 

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience building scalable applications and services, on scalable cloud platforms. with robust performance, resiliency and security. 
  • Experience with delivering end-to-end features with AI using techniques for data preparation and curation, for prompt engineering, for model fine-tuning, for model evaluation, for model orchestration and for end-to-end operational excellence.  
  • Hands-on experience working with LLMs like OpenAI's GPT 
  • Proficiency in fine-tuning pre-trained models on domain-specific datasets 
  • Experience in working with REST APIs for RAG and interacting with LLM-based systems. 
  • A passion for improving AI & engineering practices; and producing high-quality software. 
  • Self-motivated and customer focused. 
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work in a dynamic and agile environment. 
  • Experience leading large cross-team initiatives 

 

Data Science M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
