What you’ll be doing:
Research, analyze, and develop data analytics solutions to support the data and reporting needs across the underwriting departments. Establish process/efficiency improvements and reporting best practices. Assess the needs and objectives of the underwriting department to determine what the data analytics should achieve. This involves understanding the business goals, data needs, and specific analytical functionalities required. Identify and resolve complex data and application problems. Lead and assist other team members with upgrades and rollouts of data and analytics tools and applications.
On any given day, you’ll:
• Develop advanced data and reporting solutions using data and analytics applications to provide dashboards, query tools, and ad hoc reporting.• Retrieve and manipulate data from multiple data sources using current tools and software, including Power BI, SAS EG, SAS VA, Excel, Python and R.• Develop and document the metrics and data processes used within Underwriting.• Work with Underwriting leadership to ensure analytics are aligned alignment with business objectives.• Work with IT and Business Intelligence to identify and resolve complex data and application problems.• Monitor data quality and identify areas of needed improvement.• Lead upgrades and rollouts of data and analytic applications, including monitoring performance.• Prepare user documentation and training materials. Provide technical training and user support to business groups.• Perform special data projects as requested.
Here’s what we expect
• Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics or related field. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.• Typically, three or more years of experience data analysis, business intelligence, or a related field are required, preferably an analytical role in a property and casualty insurance setting.• In depth knowledge of insurance business functions, operations, objectives, and information flow, specific knowledge of underwriting processes is preferred.• Prior work with application software, data, and advanced analytical concepts is required.• Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis tools such as Power BI, SAS, SQL, Excel, Python, and R.• Ability to learn existing work tools, data sources, and more advanced insurance processes.• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex data and technical concepts in an understandable manner.• Advanced computer skills, specifically with databases and spreadsheets.• Familiar with database concepts, strategies, and methodologies.• Work experience with advanced business intelligence tools and concepts.• Ability to develop relationships and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.• Ability to assist others in acquiring knowledge.
