The Opportunity
The Strategic Data Analyst has primary responsibility to IWK MHA to support the mission, vision, and strategic directions by using the analytical tools and techniques best suited for solving the challenging problems associated with the optimal delivery of healthcare. The Strategic Data Analyst works with cross-functional team members to identify and prioritize actionable, high-impact insights across a variety of core business areas. This position will lead applied analytics initiatives that are leveraged across the breadth of the Mental Health & Addictions Program. This position will research, design, implement and validate cutting-edge algorithms to analyze diverse sources of data to achieve targeted outcomes. The Strategic Data Analyst will provide expertise on mathematical concepts for the broader Continuous Improvement team and inspire the adoption of advanced analytics and data science across the entire breadth of our Program.
Hours of Work
Monday - Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, some evening work as needed.
Your Qualifications
- Masters in applied statistics, health informatics, computer science, epidemiology, or a related quantitative discipline required.
- PhD would be considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years progressive senior level leadership experience, with focus on applied analytics and performance measurement required.
- Expert level of critical thinking to inform statistical and predictive modeling concepts, machine-learning approaches, clustering and classification techniques, and recommendation and optimization analytical tools and techniques.
- Ability to independently solve complex analytical problems using quantitative approaches with a blend of analytical, mathematical, and technical skills.
- Expert knowledge to critically analyze evidence-based practices to inform strategy development and organizational planning.
- Evidence-based collaborative problem solving of complex multifaceted issues.
- Demonstrated expertise in analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets.
- Knowledgeable in the use of statistical analysis environments.
- Experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or ArcGIS.
- Comprehensive knowledge of information management principles including information dissemination and exchange, data collection methodologies and data quality.
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge with programing languages such as with SQL, Python, Java, and C/C++.
- Experience working with and synthesizing large, complex datasets and high volumes of information.
- Lean Improvement and Project & Change Management expertise considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the health system and Mental Health & Addictions Program.
- Strong Communication, planning, presentation, and organizational skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset
