Position Summary
At ITT, we are seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to guide and execute our data engineering strategies across the enterprise, with a focus on Microsoft Azure technologies. The Lead Data Engineer will be part of the Data Analytics & AI team, responsible for supervising a team of professionals, leading efforts in designing and scaling the company’s data architecture in the cloud, pipeline development, and production readiness of data-driven solutions on the Azure platform. This role requires a hands-on approach, driving the design and implementation of solutions that will power our data initiatives.

More specifically you will:
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into a robust, scalable data architecture on Azure that meets business objectives
- Be part of the design the cloud-based data architecture for the entire organization, ensuring that it is optimized for performance, security, and scalability, leveraging Azure’s data services and capabilities
- Provide technical leadership in data architecture, ETL/ELT processes, and pipeline design on Azure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance
- Oversee the day to day responsibilities and priorities of a team of data engineers
- Prioritize efforts, develop actionable and measurable project plans.
- Manage the resources assigned to you and work with your manager to develop future looking development, training and staffing plans to accommodate the growth of the organization.
- Design and develop scalable data pipelines on Azure using services like Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics and Fabric to integrate, transform, and load data from various sources (structured and unstructured) into the company’s data platforms
- Implement and maintain data governance best practices to ensure data quality, security, and compliance on Azure
- Work closely with the rest of the Analytics and AI/ML team to provide the necessary data infrastructure for advanced analytics, reporting, and AI/ML models
- Stay updated on the latest trends, tools, and best practices in Azure cloud technologies and data architecture, advocating for continuous improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the business to identify opportunities to leverage data for business process improvements and decision-making

Position Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience in data engineering, including work with data architecture design, data pipeline development, and cloud data platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure
- Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable, cloud-based data architectures using Azure Data Services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, or Cosmos DB)
- Experience in collaborating with business teams and technical teams to deliver data solutions that align with business goals
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams and/or projects with ability to manage competing priorities and drive successful deliver of data solutions
- Strong understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and optimization for both relational and non-relational databases
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern data engineering frameworks such as Apache Spark or Databricks
- Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools like Azure Data Factory, Airflow and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes within the Azure environment
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- A team-oriented mindset and a passion for data-driven innovation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with version control tools (git), working in dev and production environments
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for data deployment using Jenkins, Azure DevOps and automation frameworks
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric as a modern data platform will be considered a strong plus
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or STEM
- Master’s Degree (or higher) in Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field is considered a strong plus
