Gray Construction is currently looking for a Data Analyst Intern for its Lexington, KY office in Summer of 2025.

Who we want… (Requirements)

 

We are looking for a motivated Data Analyst Intern to join our team and embark on a journey of professional growth in data analysis and reporting. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to learn the fundamentals of data modeling, visualization, and reporting while contributing to meaningful projects.

 

In this role, you will learn to design basic reports and visualizations using Power BI, write simple SQL queries, and follow best practices for data analysis. You will work closely with senior team members to develop foundational skills in data visualization, star schema concepts, and reporting workflows.

  • Bachelor’s degree (or Pursuing) in business Analytics, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 0-3 years of experience in a data-related role or relevant coursework.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SQL, or other reporting tools.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with an eagerness to learn and grow in the field.

Preferred Experience

  • Initial exposure to data visualization tools or reporting platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Familiarity with Excel, SQL, or similar tools for querying and transforming data.
  • Interest in pursuing advanced technical skills and a career in data analysis.

In this role, there will be opportunities for continuous learning and professional development through the following:

 

  • Build foundational knowledge in BI tools like Power BI and SQL.
  • Begin learning and practicing DAX to enhance report functionality.
  • Develop an understanding of basic star schema design to support reporting efficiency.
  • Participate in team mentorship opportunities and training sessions.
  • Familiarize yourself with version control processes (e.g., GIT) and task management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps).

 

What we expect… (Essential Functions)

 

  • Learn and apply basic star schema concepts to understand effective data modeling.
  • Begin learning DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to create simple calculations and measures.
  • Gain proficiency in Power BI, focusing on report creation and basic visualization functionality.
  • Write simple SQL queries for data extraction and analysis tasks.
  • Learn and follow the team’s DevOps and GIT processes for managing assignments and version control.
  • Document processes and contribute to team knowledge-sharing efforts.

Generally, normal office environment where noise level is moderate and temperature/humidity is controlled. Overtime may be required.
