We are now seeking for a Data Integration Engineer to join our growing Data Operations team in Wärtsilä Voyage Services. We are part of a Fleet Optimization Advisory Services organisation where Customer Engagement is increasingly important to improve customer satisfaction and build long lasting business relationships. Wartsila Voyage helps the customer to achieve energy savings and improve their fleet operations through delivering unique insight into vessel performance, based on real-time data collected from ships around the world and advanced analytics.
This is a position for you if you are passionate about using data to generate tangible business impact, support decision making and build customer engagement. We provide an international front-row seat to digital transformation of traditional maritime industry. You will be part of an experienced team tackling real-life challenges related to marine business big data and analytics.
The position is permanent and located in Helsinki, Finland
What you will be doing
As a Data Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data integration solutions that enable seamless data flow between various vessel data collection systems and Wärtsilä cloud systems. You will work with both low-frequency and high-frequency data ingestions, ensuring data is accurately and efficiently integrated into target systems. Additionally, you will leverage APIs to access and understand data, facilitating data-driven decision-making across the organization.
As a Data Integration Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- Data Ingestion:
Design and implement data ingestion workflows for low-frequency data (e.g., noon reports) and high-frequency data (e.g., real-time).
Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency during the ingestion process.
- Data Integration:
Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from various sources into target systems.
Collaborate with data architects and data scientists to define data integration requirements and best practices.
Implement data transformation and cleansing routines to ensure data is in the desired format and quality.
- API Management:
Utilize APIs to access and retrieve data from external and internal systems.
Support development of new APIs to improve daily operations
- Data Monitoring:
Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.
Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide insights based on data analysis.
Document data integration processes and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries.
- Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, software engineers, and business analysts, to ensure data integration solutions meet business needs.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on data integration projects and address any issues or concerns.
- Continuous Improvement & Documentation:
Stay up-to-date with the latest data integration technologies and best practices.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance data integration efficiency and effectiveness.
Keep data integration documentation up to date and ensure top quality documentation is available for the entire organization
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- Master degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- In-depth understanding of various ship systems, including propulsion, navigation, communication, and engines. Maritime reporting schemes knowledge.
- Basic understanding of the environmental regulations for maritime (EU ETS, FuelEU, CII…)
- At least one year experience in data integration, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), and API consumption in the maritime sector.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, SQL, or similar for data manipulation and transformation.
- Experience with Databricks
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on data quality.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Customer-centric mindset
- Fluency in English language
