The City of Largo is seeking a detail-oriented Asset Data Specialist to assist in a full range of asset management functions and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) duties. This role supports various asset management programs, including ESRI Mapping Products, VueWorks, RTA, and Routewear, ensuring accurate data collection, validation, and maintenance.Under the supervision of the Asset Management Data Coordinator, this position plays a key role in enhancing the City's asset management system through on-site inspections, data analysis, and GIS mapping.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the development, maintenance, and analysis of GIS data related to City infrastructure and assets.
Support the use of asset management software, including VueWorks, RTA, and Routewear, to track and manage City assets.
Conduct on-site inspections to verify and validate asset data accuracy.
Utilize ESRI Mapping Products for spatial analysis and mapping.
Collaborate with various departments to ensure asset data is up to date and accessible.
Perform data entry, quality control, and reporting to support asset management decisions.
Troubleshoot and resolve GIS and asset management software issues as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience with ESRI ArcGIS and other GIS software.
Familiarity with VueWorks, RTA, Routewear, or similar asset management programs is a plus.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in data validation and reporting.
Ability to conduct field inspections and interpret GIS data in real-world applications.
Strong communication and teamwork skills to support collaboration across departments.

Management

- Ensures workflow processes are documented and followed across the department and works with team members to ensure that the proper information is being captured
Technical
- Creates, runs, and understands reports using Microsoft Power BI, Excel, and other reporting tools to support asset management decisions
- Understands the databases for multiple asset management systems to provide information to operational managers looking for data to support their operational needs
- Captures, manages, and shares asset information (condition, age, cost, etc.) according to established processes with various departmental cross-functional teams, including Finance, Engineering Services, Public Works, and Environmental Services
- Conducts on-site inspections of City assets (e.g., infrastructure, equipment) to verify or collect relevant data
- Supports the creation and modification of datasets and maps in geographic information systems (GIS) as needed by the department
- Assists in the inputting, sorting, correcting, and allocating of asset data to ensure its integrity and usability among Public Works staff
- Follows established protocols and procedures for using the City’s electronic asset management system to maintain data accuracy
- Assists with running management and key performance indicator (KPI) analyses as directed
- Documents workflow processes and learns to improve data collection and reporting methods

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in geographic information systems (GIS), data analytics, or a closely related field and four (4) years of directly related experience or equivalency of training and experience
- Asset management software experience preferred
- Valid Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of report-writing software
- Knowledge of ArcGIS
- Working knowledge of record-keeping principles and practices
- Ability to understand asset life cycle data
- Ability to maintain accurate and interrelated database records
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment: 70% inside a climate-controlled building and 30% outside, which includes driving.
Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require sitting approximately five (5) hours per day, standing approximately two (2) hours per day, and walking approximately one (1) hour per day. The work requires frequent bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 15 pounds, and occasional lifting/carrying objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds. On rare occasions, the work requires lifting/carrying objects weighing 45 pounds and over.
Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Enough to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone, the ability to detect specific noises, and the proper equipment operation. Speaking: Enough to communicate orally with others in person, on the phone, and while giving formal presentations to groups. Seeing: Enough to see and read computer monitor screens, operate a vehicle, inspect sites, and read fine print.
Driving Requirements: The work requires frequent driving and a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Technology: The work requires the ability to operate telephones, smartphones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktops, laptop computers, calculators, and all associated software. It also requires proficiency with computer hardware and software programs, including word processing, spreadsheet and/or database applications, internet applications, and database management.
