Job Description

Work Arrangement

Onsite - This position requires the employee to be onsite full time. The primary work location will be at the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.

The Role

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer for Perception to join our Advanced Development team within GM’s new Autonomous Robotics Center (ARC) organization. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing software solutions for perception systems in autonomous robotics applications. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to create innovative solutions that enhance the performance, reliability, and safety of our autonomous systems.

Joining our ARC organization will provide you with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, contribute to innovation, and collaborate with a diverse team of experts. You will play a key role in advancing our automation capabilities and ensuring that our planning and control systems are at the forefront of the industry.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and develop software solutions for perception systems in autonomous applications.
  • Implement algorithms for object detection, classification, and tracking.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and control teams to ensure seamless integration of perception systems.
  • Conduct simulations and tests to validate the performance and reliability of perception algorithms.
  • Participate in feasibility studies and prototyping to explore new technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other teams within the Robotics Engineering organization.
  • Work closely with the Software Solutions Architect to align perception development with the technological roadmap.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of experience in designing and developing software for perception systems.
  • Proficient in Python, C/C++, ROS, Git, Docker
  • Experience with Linux-based embedded system software development
  • Experience with 3D point cloud processing
  • Experience working with LiDAR and Camera perception systems
  • Strong knowledge of ML based object detection, classification, and tracking algorithms.
  • Experience in implementing and testing perception algorithms in autonomous systems.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in the robotics or automation industry.
  • Knowledge of advanced planning and control methodologies and tools.
  • Experience in prototyping and feasibility studies.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends and technologies in planning and control systems for autonomous applications.
