The role
South East Water (SEW) is in the midst of transforming to become a data driven, digital utility. This new and exciting role, which sits within the Enterprise Data Team in SEW's Business and Technology Services Division, will play a crucial role in achieving SEW's vision of being a data driven organisation, by enabling solutions and decision making through greater insights. This is a two-year, maximum term contract.
Specifically, the data engineer will be part of the strategic program of work for the design, development and operation of Data and Analytics capability within SEW. You will help stakeholders understand the data through exploration and build and maintain secure and compliant data processing pipelines by using different tools and techniques.
This role will:
- Be a contributor to the Acumen project for development and implementation of the SEW Advance Data and Analytics Platform
- Support and manage operational elements, pipelines and data within the Acumen Platform
- Work across the business to curate datasets to support analytics and data science to provide high value business insights and outcomes.
The Azure Data Engineer is responsible for data-related implementation tasks, that include provisioning data storage services, ingesting streaming and batch data, transforming data, implementing security requirements to meet classification levels and control, implementing data retention policies, identifying performance bottlenecks, accessing external data sources, and triaging and helping resolve technical data ingestion issues.
Who are you?
Armed with a degree level qualification in Information Technology/Data Processing or related area, the successful candidate will hold relevant certifications for an Azure Data Engineer or be willing to complete Microsoft certification: Azure Data Engineer Associate DP203. This exciting role will essentially support and grow a brand new platform within the business!
The following knowledge, skills and experience will be essential to perform this role:
- 5+ years’ experience in designing and implementing Data Lake solutions on Azure, including Azure Data Lake Gen2 and Blob storage.
- 5+ years’ experience in designing and building advanced Data Pipelines and Data Warehouses at an enterprise scale.
- DevOps experience inclusive of creating CI/CD/CT pipelines for data engineering and analytics using Azure DevOps
- Experience with MS-SQL, T-SQL, meta-data driven and Change Data Capture (CDC)
- 3-4 years’ experience in fast cloud-based data solutions (IoT, Streaming, Data Lake)
- Experience with Databricks (Python programming, all-purpose and job cluster)
- 3-5 years’ experience with enterprise modern data architecture patterns and metadata driven ETL solutions
- Data Model (Kimball and Inmon model concepts and practices, especially type 2)
- Experience in data visualisation and reporting using; Fabric (Power BI) and Data Science Notebooks
- Exposure in Azure ML Services & Sandbox solutions

This role is remunerated at a Level 5, which is between $112,377 and $125,011 + super and offers are commensurate with the successful candidates' experience.
