Job Description

The Artificial Intelligence, Learning, and Intelligent Systems (ALIS) group in the Computational Science Center (CSC) is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) summer intern. The intern will develop a software framework to deploy machine learning tools to data resulting from simulations of turbulent flows. The intern will work as a member of the group to drive the development of a framework to setup, drive, and post-process simulations from different high performance computing codes.

Daily responsibilities will include computer programming, post-processing data, and developing workflows. The intern will also work with the team to prepare the results for presentation at appropriate venues.

Basic QualificationsMinimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.

Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

Additional Required Qualifications
  • Must have experience or be willing to learn about simulation workflows, post-processing and machine learning techniques
  • Must have experience in computational programming frameworks (Python, UNIX, etc.).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong interest in machine learning, post-processing, scripting, and workflow management. 

 

Experience in the following would be highly advantageous: 

  • Courses in computer science and machine learning
  • UNIX computational environments 
  • Scripting and workflow management
  • Python, or similar languages
  • Tensorflow, scikit-learn, Keras, Pytorch, or other machine learning framework.
