The Role: Associate Director - ESG Data Operations

The Team:

Sustainable1 (here after S1) was established to equip companies, investors, and policymakers with the essential data, tools, and insights necessary for a successful transition to a low-carbon, resource-efficient economy. The S1 content suite is an exciting addition to our existing services under Market Intelligence. S1 generates value for our clients by enhancing their decision-making capabilities, supports investors in mitigating the risks associated with long-term investments, and drives corporate value through sustainable financial performance.

This team will be focused on collecting broad range of Environment data through a variety of company and governmental/publicly available sources. This approach will enable us to deliver users a thorough, multi-dimensional perspective on a company's resilience to climate-related changes. Additionally, we will engage with key stakeholders to deepen our understanding and enhance our content offerings.

Responsibilities & Impact:

  • Develop and implement the S1 data operations management framework.
  • Interpret process requirements, analyse them, and create comprehensive process plans to lead end-to-end execution.
  • Collaborate with operations, data management, data governance, and technology teams to design and develop necessary tools and applications for effective process and people management.
  • Oversee and manage various data operations, quality assurance, and S1 data improvement projects.
  • Drive change initiatives that enhance productivity and quality within content operations teams.
  • Monitor adoption rates and commit to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Create user-friendly, live project update dashboards to communicate data project updates, metrics, and analytics effectively.
  • Provide periodic reports to the S1 Head of Data regarding the status of data collection processes and projects, utilizing dashboards and KPIs to promote transparency in program management.
  • Leverage a broad knowledge of operations principles and business drivers to positively influence business results.
  • Translate organizational strategies into departmental goals and collaborate with management to establish actionable execution plans.
  • Serve as a “trusted partner” for key stakeholders in data, transformation, and technology organizations.
  • Act as a change agent, contributing to the ongoing journey of continuous transformation.
  • Anticipate complexities associated with recommended changes and address resistance to change, positioning yourself as a change leader.
  • Provide consulting leadership in specific areas; coach, mentor, and manage junior colleagues within the team.
  • Analyse operations to identify key areas for process efficiency, improvement, and control.
  • Establish process stability and implement control checks to proactively manage risks and mitigate potential impacts on customers.
  • Focus on talent management by enhancing skills within the existing team and identifying external talent aligned with emerging technology trends, with a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion.
  • Take responsibility for employee development, engagement, and performance management.
  • Develop and implement a skill development strategy at the dataset level.

As a member of the S1 team, you will be responsible for delivering and maintaining accurate, comprehensive, and timely data sets while aligning with the global interests and needs of our business divisions, both internally and externally. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with team members and management on various initiatives related to Environmental Data. You will be part of a team of 200 members, playing a crucial role in driving the team's objectives forward. Your accountability will encompass a deep understanding of and ownership over business objectives. You will serve as a role model for your colleagues, fostering an environment of passion and enthusiasm in communication. Embracing change will be integral to your approach, as you lead by example in conveying new initiatives and adapting to evolving circumstances.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in management and/or finance.
  • Over 12 years of work experience, including transformational project management and team leadership, with at least 8 years in a managerial capacity overseeing other managers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, at various stages of completion.
  • Excellent listening skills, with a commitment to seeking broad input and feedback, and a practice of frequent and effective follow-up.
  • Strong data analysis skills, proficient in Excel, Tableau, R, Python, and/or other BI tools.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in SQL is highly preferred.
  • Experience with S1 data/products is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and engage effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Enthusiastic leader with a strong desire for continuous learning and contribution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a team-oriented environment.
  • Capability to participate in, lead, and manage large, interdisciplinary teams.
  • Highly organized and creative, with strong time and project management skills.
  • Excellent client and market knowledge, with the ability to contribute to the ongoing development of content.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of leading and managing initiatives of varying complexity while simplifying communication for diverse stakeholders.
