Position Summary

The Lead DataOps Engineer is responsible for driving the organization’s data management and storage system strategy ensuring timely access to secure, resilient, scalable, and accurate data. The role is responsible for leading a team of DataOps engineers in designing, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and tools necessary to support our data pipelines and storage systems, as well as improving our monitoring, automation, and deployment processes. Additional responsibilities include
building and maintaining ancillary systems and solutions that enhance the security, stability, availability, and performance of data pipeline and storage system deliverables under their purview. This role involves strategic planning, technical leadership, and collaboration with various stakeholders including Guild’s Product Delivery, Data Services, DevOps, and Infrastructure teams to ensure data movement and workflow processes meet business needs and data is safeguarded as a critical asset to support organizational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of DataOps engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Oversee DataOps projects from conception to deployment, ensuring timely, and successful delivery.
  • Identify, design, architect, implement, and document automation strategies.
  • Judiciously recommend and apply data normalization and denormalization tactics to improve organizational efficiency.
  • Implement automation tools and scripts to streamline data movement and workflows to reduce manual intervention.
  • Evangelize and contribute to effective use of DataOps practices and Cloud solutions.
  • Set up monitoring and alerting systems to track the health and performance of data pipelines and storage systems and quickly resolve any issues that arise.
  • Ensure that applicable systems maintain ongoing alignment with enterprise RTO and RPO targets.
  • Ensure robust data pipeline and storage system security measures are in place and that data management practices comply with relevant regulations.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery plans and redundancy measures, ensuring data integrity and availability in case of failures.
  • Perform data migrations from existing databases to our Cloud environment, ensuring seamless transitions and data integrity.
  • Experience creating/maintaining standards, along with enforcing those standards, to provide lean, high performant data pipelines and storage systems while balancing overall costs.
  • Write technical documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of latest technology trends and participate in high-level decisions impacting the direction of the Information Technology function.
  • Participate in daily stand-up and weekly planning meetings in relation to DevOps project tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree directly related to the position or equivalent, preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum seven years' experience demonstrated work experience or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
  • Minimum three years supervisory or leadership experience required. Proven leadership experience and ability to manage a team.
  • Experience with Data Observability tools for monitoring and alerting (i.e. Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
  • Strong understanding of data quality principles and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cloud storage services within AWS (Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, etc.) and Azure (Azure SQL Database, Azure database for MySQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, etc.).
  • Familiarity with data security and privacy best practices, including encryption, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with disaster recovery strategies.
  • Expert with performance monitoring, optimization, tuning and management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to work in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Wiki, collaborative cloud-based programs, and third-party software applications required.

Supervision

  • Interaction/Supervision: Acts as a mentor/guide to less experienced professional contributor staff in a similar role; works independently and only under general direction; guided by professional standards, desired outcomes, and project plan specifications.

Requirements

Physical: Work is primarily sedentary; mobility in an office setting.

Manual Dexterity: Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

 

Audio/Visual: Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio, e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.

 

Environmental:  Office environment – moderate noise, no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Mental: Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.  

Schedules: Work is primarily performed during the business week, Monday - Friday; occasional night or weekend may be necessary.

Travel: 5 - 10%

Targeted Salary Range: $127,000 - $173,000

Compensation at Guild is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to local and federal minimum wage requirements, education, level of experience, and applicant’s geographical location.
