Associate Engineer, Data Platforms

This Is What You’ll Do: 

Database Deployments and Implementations: 

  • Under the direction of more senior Data Platform Engineers, install and implement the data platforms and databases those more senior team members have engineered and architected.

Performance Optimization & Tuning: 

  • Monitor and analyze database performance metrics to identify and resolve bottlenecks proactively.
  • Monitor and help implement indexing strategies, partitioning, and query tuning for optimal performance.
  • Recommend enhancements to Data Platform Engineers based on triage and troubleshooting work.

Development & Data Integration: 

  • Triage tickets submitted for data warehouses for business intelligence reporting.
  • Implement and troubleshoot scripts for database maintenance, deployments, and data migration.
  • Assist Data Engineers and other data consumers with data platform best practices.

Database Security & Compliance: 

  • Implement robust security practices, including role-based access controls, data encryption, and auditing.
  • Help ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
  • Assist with remediation of database vulnerabilities, patching and updating data plaftorms.

System Monitoring & Disaster Recovery: 

  • Use monitoring tools to ensure database uptime and reliability.
  • Assist with backup and disaster recovery plans, ensuring rapid recovery in the event of a failure.
  • Assist with failover and high-availability strategies.

Collaboration & Documentation: 

  • Help maintain detailed documentation for database architectures, processes, and workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements for database solutions that meet business objectives.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement: 

  • Research and propose innovative solutions for database optimization and modernization.
  • Actively participate in code reviews, design discussions, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends in database engineering and adopt tools and techniques to enhance productivity.

On-Call Support: 

  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide support for critical database systems and ensure 24/7 availability.

          This Is What It Takes:

          • Knowledge of Oracle (Linux platform) and SQL Server (Windows platform).
          • Proficiency in T-SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell for automation.
          • Experience with tools like TOAD, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
          • Strong understanding of ETL processes and tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
          • Familiarity with containerized database solutions and cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or Oracle Cloud).
          • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
          • 2+ years of hands-on experience in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database development and engineering.

          PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

          • Position works in-office at the Corporate location
          • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
          • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment
          • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
          • Ability to reach, bend, and stoop as necessary
          • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
          • Ability to focus and concentrate on tasks for extended periods
          • Ability to navigate the office environment safely, including stairs and elevators if applicable
          • Ability to travel up to 25% via airplane or vehicle
