Position Summary

Works closely with the Internal Controls Consultant and business areas to assess information needs, designs research studies, manages data projects, analyzes results, and presents key findings to support internal business fraud mitigation strategies. Plans and manages data and fraud analytics projects of moderate to high complexity in business areas to test resilience of internal fraud risk controls and identify exposures.

 

  • The successful candidate will work from the Home Office, Erie PA.
  • The Hiring Manager will also consider candidates for Senior Internal Controls Data Analyst.  Level of position offered will be based upon the depth and breadth of selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.    

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with business areas to analyze business data and data relationships to develop and generate testing, data analysis, and analytics reporting to evaluate the adequacy of internal fraud controls.
  • Utilizes quantitative analysis and statistical methods to develop fraud risk analytics, reporting, data development and analytics support to provide strategic insights to optimize internal fraud controls.
  • Analyzes trends and interrogates performance of internal fraud mitigation initiatives. Creates ad hoc data analyses from multiple internal and external data sources to evaluate effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Mines and performs data analysis from multiple sources using high-level analytical tools often using complex joins across multiple datasets and validates data by reconciling source or system of records; understands, documents and explains variances and interpret results; pinpoint trends, correlations and patterns in data.
  • Develops metrics to measure quality and effectiveness of exiting controls. Works with subject matter experts to create data analysis and insight resulting in recommendations for residual fraud risk controls and mitigation.
  • Provides concise data reports and data visualizations. Creates and maintains databases and data sets and triage data related issues, and articulates results of data analysis to support residual fraud risk remediation.
  • Trains less experienced data analyst within the section and conducts special research studies as directed.

Qualifications

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree with three years of experience in research, analysis, strategic planning, financial analysis, information systems or related field; or
  • Associate degree and five years of experience in research, analysis, strategic planning, financial analysis, information systems or related field; or
  • High school diploma or GED with seven years of experience in research, analysis, strategic planning, financial analysis, information systems or related field

 

Additional Experience

  • An understanding of analysis and research required.
  • Experience with dataset querying and reporting required.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and flow-charting software required.
  • Proficiency at performing data analysis and reporting using business intelligence tools required.
  • Experience with SQL and/or SAS is preferred.
  • Experience with software and programs such as ACL or other related data analytics programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical and financial analysis and quantitative techniques preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Experience analyzing and reviewing business data to identify performance indicators pertaining to operations, risk, finance, compliance, or process controls.
  • Insurance industry experience preferred.
