The Behavioral Science for Policy Lab (BSPL), directed by Professor Elke Weber, is an interdisciplinary lab at the intersection of the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, the Woodrow Wilson School for Public Policy, and the Psychology Department. BSPL brings together researchers of varied backgrounds to shed light on the psychological foundations of real-world decisions, with a focus on issues relating to energy and the environment. Our methods range from process-tracing in controlled lab and virtual-lab experiments, to field experiments in real-world settings, to using big data, and include both quantitative modeling and qualitative approaches.
The lab manager will report directly to the lab director, Professor Weber, and work closely with research group postdocs, graduate students and lab staff. The lab manager will facilitate and coordinate many aspects of BSPL research initiatives.
The desired start date for the position is June 2025. This position is ideal for someone interested in gaining more research experience before pursuing a PhD in a behavioral science field. Responsibilities
- Provide leadership support for the research group, BSPL. Support research projects, such as creating research study materials and scientific protocols, conducting background research, including literature reviews and citations. Manage ongoing research projects of the research group and orchestrate organizational tasks.
- The position will support hiring and managing of the BSPL’s research assistants; manage their work assignments, and that of the BSPL research group consisting of undergrads, graduate students, and casual employees and ensure successful completion.
- Design research surveys and experiments, which includes programming, developing, testing and implementing online research projects. Collect, process, and analyze data with proficiency in R and Qualtrics highly desirable. Write up results and contribute to and edit scientific manuscripts.
- Create and complete the IRB (human subjects) protocols and renewals; ensure timely submissions and manage continuing reviews.
- Plan and organize research meetings and schedules. Keep lab resources and project records organized and up to date. Maintain excellent, timely communication regarding research operations with BSPL members.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor degree (BA or BS) in relevant field, with preference to psychology, economics, business, public policy, organizational behavior, consumer behavior.
- 3-6 years’ work experience in academic research lab, or equivalent educational experience with masters’ degree or relevant undergraduate thesis project with one year experience
- At least one year of research experience in a relevant area including: psychology, economics, business, public policy, organizational behavior, consumer behavior, with experience using a data analysis program such as R, SPSS, or SAS
- General knowledge of social science research methods, statistics, and experimental studies with human subjects
- Must possess strong managerial and organizational skills, with the ability to manager several concurrent tasks
- Self-motivated, highly organized, conscientious, and good team player
- Excellent communication, management, and administrative skills
- Proficient in MS Office
Preferred
- Masters’ degree in relevant field preferred
- Research management and administration experience
- High degree of proficiency in R
- Experience using Qualtrics
- Experience using participant management platforms such as MTurk and Prolific
