Role and Responsibilities

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Data Engineer Intern to join our Data Science and Tools team. This role provides hands-on experience in designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines that support business intelligence, analytics, and machine learning initiatives. The intern will work closely with data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure efficient data processing, transformation, and integration from various telecom sources, such as RAN data, unstructured configuration data and other data sources.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in designing and building scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines to process telecom data efficiently.

• Work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources, including network usage, customer interactions, and operational logs.

• Support the integration of real-time and batch data processing systems.

• Help optimize database performance and storage solutions for telecom-related datasets.

• Collaborate with data analysts and scientists to provide clean, processed data for analytics and reporting.

• Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and error-handling mechanisms to ensure accuracy and consistency.

• Assist in maintaining cloud-based data infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) or on-premises data warehouses.

• Document workflows, best practices, and technical processes for future reference.

Skills and Qualifications

Education & Professional Experience

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Prior experience with data engineering projects, coursework, or internships in telecom or related industries is a plus.

Necessary Skills/Attributes

• Programming: Proficiency in Python, SQL, or Scala.

• Databases: Familiarity with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra).

• Big Data Tools: Exposure to Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka is a plus.

• Cloud Platforms: Understanding of cloud services like AWS (S3, Redshift, Glue), Azure (Data Factory, Synapse), or GCP (BigQuery, Dataflow).

• ETL Tools: Experience with ETL frameworks like Apache Airflow, Talend, or Informatica is beneficial.

• Version Control: Basic knowledge of Git/GitHub for collaboration.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt quickly.

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

• Good communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

• Attention to detail and a proactive mindset.
