Responsibilities
As the Head of Data Engineering & Architecture within Oaktree's Information Solutions team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering innovative data solutions that drive competitive differentiation. Leveraging your expertise in technology, leadership, and industry trends, you will design and implement scalable, reusable, and trusted data assets to empower decision-making and operational efficiency across the firm. This role requires a visionary leader with a proven ability to address complex, multi-dimensional data challenges. You will partner closely with stakeholders across Investment, Technology, Operations, and Risk & Reporting teams to develop cohesive data solutions that align with Oaktree's strategic objectives and advance our commitment to data excellence.
Responsibilities include:
- Establish and govern an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities for development of information-based capabilities.
- Roll out a data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture.
- Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company’s principal information assets.
- Design a data engineering roadmap and execute the vision behind it.
- Oversee the movement of large amounts of data into our data lake.
- Define and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with Oaktree’s business objectives, delivering measurable ROI.
- Lead the vision, development, and delivery of scalable, reusable, and trusted data products to meet cross-functional needs.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure data solutions enable decision-making, operational efficiency, and long-term value.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of data engineers and architects to build modern tech solutions in Azure tech stack.
- Architect, design, and implement a robust and scalable data architecture on Microsoft Azure to support Oaktree's investment data management needs.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, orchestrating data ingestion, transformation, and loading processes across various sources.
- Utilize Azure Databricks or similar Azure tech stack to build and manage data processing and analytics workloads, leveraging Apache Spark for large-scale data transformations.
- Design and implement data warehousing solutions using Azure Synapse Analytics, enabling efficient storage, analysis, and reporting on vast amounts of investment data.
- Optimize data storage strategies across Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Database, and Synopse, ensuring data security, integrity, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with data scientists to implement Azure Machine Learning and AI solutions, driving insights from investment data and enhancing decision-making processes.
- Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures, including data quality management, metadata management, and data lineage tracking within the Azure environment.
- Collaborate with and communicate current state and future state architectures with the stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, or other relevant discipline.
- 15+ years of experience in data and analytics space and 10+ years of experience in job specific work.
- Knowledge of the asset management industry and asset classes to bridge business and technology for data solutions.
- Strong understanding of key data concepts (e.g., Portfolio Construction, Security/Account Reference data, AUM, Investment Results/Attribution, Index/Benchmark).
- Experience with industry data (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar, ESG, Index, alternative data).
- Hands-on experience with data warehouse, data lake, and cloud solutions, collaborating with data engineering teams.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, or other relevant discipline.
Base Salary Range
$225,000 - $250,000
In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives, a comprehensive benefits package and a flexible work arrangement. The base salary offered will be commensurate with experience and/or qualifications, industry knowledge and expertise, as well as prior training and education.
