Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (Gen AI) are game-changing technologies that stand to reshape the insurance industry, with the power to fundamentally transform underwriting processes. Our ideal candidate will advance Global Specialty’s “Epicenter of Change” as a critical contributor in revolutionizing how we ‘underwrite human achievement’ and work through the integration of cutting-edge. In this role, you will partner across the organization with Business, Operations, Data Science, Execution, Information Technology, Chief Underwriting Office and our Chief Operating Officer to craft a transformative multi-year roadmap. You will bridge the traditional and the cutting-edge—harnessing Gen AI tech, tackling challenges, and ensuring we continue to grow sustainably in a dynamic market.
How You Will Transform:
Vision & Thought Leadership:
- AI Visionary: Track the latest in AI, Gen AI, and emerging tech and lead the charge in integrating AI, automation, and machine learning into underwriting models that are faster, smarter, and more accurate than ever before.
- Drive Business Growth – Leverage AI to reduce friction in the underwriting process, enhance customer experience, and create new revenue opportunities in partnership with IT and other critical stakeholders, executing on a Gen AI-powered strategy.
- Educate & Evangelize: Develop an engaging learning program that empowers our leaders and teams to confidently embrace AI-driven underwriting.
Underwriting Process Excellence:
- AI Champion: Drive the development of an AI-guided underwriting process that augments human expertise and streamlines risk assessment, using Co-Pilot and other tools. Steer early pilots to seamlessly integrate human underwriting expertise with innovative tech-thinking to ensure accuracy and alignment with underwriting strategies.
- Optimize Risk & Decisioning: Develop AI-powered underwriting frameworks that improve accuracy, efficiency, and risk assessment, balancing voice of the customer with differentiated Hartford experiences that keep a keen eye on compliance and ethics.
- Unlock Automation: Lead our approach to harness data effectively, unlocking new efficiencies in underwriting workflows. Drive data-centric appetite strategies and help implement the next wave of automated underwriting solutions.
- End-to-End Integration: Ensure AI solutions talk to every corner of the business—Claims, Risk Engineering, Business, Operations, and beyond—so everything runs like a well-oiled machine.
Inspiration and Change Management:
What You Will Bring:
- Deep Expertise: 10+ years of experience in underwriting, claims, or product development including how AI-driven insights and technology disrupts financial services, preferably within specialty insurance, or Insurtech leadership.
- Inventive Mindset: You are not afraid to color outside the lines and have a passion for solving complex problems with smart, scalable solutions.
- Agility & Adaptability: Comfort switching gears quickly and continuously improving processes. Proven ability to lead others through change.
- Insatiable Thirst for Knowledge: You have a strong grasp of AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, and automation and are passionate about keeping up with evolving tech—think LLMs, deep learning, or data-driven automation.
- Collaboration Extraordinaire: Team player with outstanding inter-personal, negotiation and organizational influencing skills; excellent stakeholder/relationship management skills and leadership behaviors.
- Financial Acumen: You speak P&L fluently and have a proven track record of steering long-term strategies to tangible results.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
