Summary of Job Duties:

The Research Assistant will provide support for the HIRED grant, funded by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE). This role involves assisting with project coordination, including scheduling and administrative tasks, conducting research, and participating in data science teaching workshops across the state. The assistant will also be responsible for data collection, collaborating with academic institutions to establish course equivalencies for articulation agreements, and performing other duties as assigned. The Research Assistant will attend weekly meetings with the grant team to provide updates and identify next steps. Travel is required throughout the appointment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate project meetings, including scheduling, and provide administrative support
• Conduct research aligned with the grant’s objectives
• Participate in data science workshops across Arkansas (travel required)
• Assist workshop participants in understanding complex data science concepts
• Collect, analyze, and manage data to support grant initiatives
• Collaborate with academic institutions to develop articulation agreements for seamless student transfer
• Solve course equivalency challenges by evaluating curriculum alignment
• Complete online training as needed to strengthen programming skills before workshop participation
• Contribute to project success through initiative, problem-solving, and collaboration
• Perform other duties as assigned

This position requires compliance with all federal and state regulations governing the ADHE HIRED grant program.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Current or admitted graduate student at the University of Arkansas

  • Good academic and disciplinary standing with the University of Arkansas

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from the most recently completed degree; current students must also maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher

  • Proficiency in programming with Python

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with faculty, administrators, or executives in academic or corporate settings

  • Teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and uncertainty in a dynamic environment

  • Strong critical thinking skills, including data analysis and informed decision-making

Salary Information:

$18.92 per hour
