Position Title: Research Assistant
Department: Marketing, International Business & Strategy, Goodman School of Business
Supervisor: Dr. Asma Zafar
Start Date: March 3, 2025
Hours: Minimum of 100 hours during the term (approximately 8–10 hours per week)
Compensation: According to the qualifications that the employee holds.
Third year complete - $17.35 per hour
Fourth year complete - $22.40 per hour
Masters’ complete - $27.50 per hour
In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Research Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Research Assistant’s rate.
Position Overview
We are seeking a self-driven and detail-oriented individual with strong analytical and quantitative skills to assist faculty in conducting cutting-edge research at the intersection of management and accounting. This position is an excellent opportunity for a high-achieving students interested in advancing their research, analytical, and academic writing skills. The position is especially suitable for students considering future graduate studies or a PhD in Business/Management.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of faculty, the Research Assistant will:
Literature Review:
Conduct in-depth reviews of academic and professional literature in management, accounting, and related fields.
Catalogue, summarize, synthesize, and write review of literature to support research projects.
Data Analysis:
Download, clean, and format datasets from various sources.
Perform data analysis using statistical tools or software as required (e.g., Excel, STATA, Python).
Tabulate and interpret results to support the research findings.
Report Writing and Documentation:
Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and manuscripts for potential publication.
Ensure clear and accurate documentation of methodologies and results.
Collaboration and Initiative:
Proactively familiarize with relevant databases, research methodologies, and tools.
Communicate progress and findings regularly with supervising faculty.
Demonstrate initiative in exploring innovative approaches to research challenges.
Qualifications
Undergraduate or Graduate student at Brock University
Academic Excellence: Strong performance in quantitative and analytical coursework, particularly in business statistics, data analytics, econometrics or related subjects.
Skills:
Proficient with MS Office tools
Proficiency or willingness to learn data analysis with Excel, STATA, and Python tools.
Excellent reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Interest in Research: A passion for academic inquiry, particularly in the areas of organization studies and accounting.
Self-Driven: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines.
Research Experience: Previous research experience is preferred but not necessary.
