The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

1What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers Data Engineering team constructs pipelines that contextualize and provide easy access to data by the entire enterprise. As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in growing and transforming our analytics landscape. In addition to your strong analytical mind, you will bring your inquisitive attitude and ability to translate stories found in data by leveraging a variety of data programming techniques. You will leverage your ability to design, build and deploy data solutions that capture, explore, transform, and utilize data to support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and business intelligence/insights.What Will You Do?
- Work as a member of high-performing central team that services multiple development teams in the provisioning and effective use of Cloud Infrastructure.
- Show technical leadership in the right usage of AWS services and related Cloud software
- Contribute to the infrastructure do’s and don’ts based on best practices during technical and design discussions with IT architects and developers.
- Contribute to the tracking of our organization’s (Value Stream’s) cloud assets to establish traceability.
- Work independently to tackle well-scoped and loosely scoped problems.
- Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
- Eight years of directly relevant hands-on experience.
- Solid experience in the use of AWS Services and Databricks
- Highly proficient in coding with Terraform, Python, PySpark, Git and SQL.
- Experience with DevOps Engineering (CI/CD) practices.
- Skilled at coming up with efficient and cost-effective techniques to leverage the Cloud ecosystem in support of data pipeline projects.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with central/enterprise teams and multiple development teams on specific technical asks, best practices and solutions.
- Skills to design and develop utilities that help with the automation of repetitive tasks for the team or enable self-service by application teams.
- AWS/Databricks certifications recommended.
- Exposure to Machine Learning workflows (in Databricks and AWS Sagemaker, Bedrock), LLMs and Gen AI
- Have a learner mindset to keep abreast with relevant technological developments and contribute to knowledge sessions with the rest of the team.
- Ability and aptitude to document how-to guides and best practices for developers and IT architects.
- Familiarity with Agile framework/methodology
What is a Must Have?
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training with data tools, techniques, and manipulation.
- Four years of data engineering or equivalent experience.
