R&D Data Scientist

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

Become a central part of the Jotun Performance Coatings R&D digital transformation by helping us move towards more data-driven innovation. This involves incorporating data science competence in our research and development through creating methods for capturing, storing and working with data.

The successful candidate will join the Jotun Performance Coatings R&D Technology department, focusing on developing new technology platforms, new methodology, and new insights for marine and protective coatings.

Responsibilities: 

• Work with an experienced team of chemists and assist in conducting in-depth analyses of experimental data. 

• Develop quantitative models describing coating performance. Define and implement solutions for relevant data capture and integrations related to understanding product performance. 

• Identify opportunities and create solutions using statistics, coding, and AI tools to better use collected data. 

• Represent R&D in the general digitalization of Jotun and collaborate with other functions in this field. 

• proactively and continuous learning on data science related methods, technology; keeping up to date. 

• follow through on data science projects from data exploration to modelling, prototyping, operationalisation and maintenance. 

• Raise data literacy in the organisation. 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR AND WHAT WE OFFER

What we are looking for 

Qualifications: 

• PhD or MSc with experience in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subject. 

• Significant experience with data analysis and advanced modelling. 

• Competence in computational modelling, advanced statistics, machine learning and programming. 

• Experience with Azure technology stack is a plus. 

• Experience with experimental research is a plus.

• Strategic thinking and analytical skills. 

• Strong communication skills. Able to communicate complex ideas through a broad audience. 

• Focused on self-development. 

• Fluent in English. 

• Proficient working with common Microsoft 365 tools.
