The Role

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a diverse group of talented students to join the internship program at Schonfeld. You’ll spend ten weeks with the Reference Data Operations team which sits within the larger Operations division. You will be immersed in the culture and atmosphere of Schonfeld, working alongside talented professionals on high profile projects.

The Reference Data Operations team at Schonfeld take on a wide range of responsibilities and challenges. This group is responsible for all account onboarding across the firm, setting up the static data that drives trade bookings, and the overall documentation for all high-risk areas of Operations. You will collaborate with many peers from different departments, such as - Risk, Portfolio Financing, Middle Office, and Fund Accounting. The Reference Data Operations team takes pride in suggesting policies for optimal efficiency for all processes.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will work directly with Operations senior management and across peer groups in all areas. This is a prime opportunity to learn various facets of the different business departments. Acquire knowledge of how various asset types work and function, how data is retrieved and communicated with sell side counterparties, gain an appreciation for all components of data and its investment value to a hedge fund. In working on these operational projects, you will interact and liaise to helping us achieve a scalable infrastructure that is efficient and its data integrity in high regard for completeness and accuracy.

Reference Data Management

  • Broker Data: Assist Account Master team and Operations work with all stakeholders to document list of executing brokers by various classifications and fund ownerships. Illustrations in Visio for knowledge sharing across departments in Atlassian Confluence pages.
  • Coordinate with various teams globally:  Legal / KYC / Middle Office to gather information and enhance existing workflows.
    Verify information in various systems to ensure static data integrity for the entire firm

Documentation

  • Continuing to help build our master relationship contact sheet – covers all PB / EB / ISDA relationships.
  • Coordinate with the team to help author a best practices procedure manual
  • Help reconcile information across all systems to ensure high static data integrity for the firm
  • Help suggest areas of improvement that will benefit all stakeholders

What you’ll bring?

  • Having a keen analytical eye with high regard for attention to detail.
  • Organizational skills as well as an appreciation for data cataloging and classifications would be instrumental in these projects.
  • A natural curiosity for learning and understanding how things work, and systems interact.
  • Strong communication skills are must for this role as you will be exposed to senior managers at the firm and across our trading relationships on Wall Street.
  • We’d love if you had Excel skills, /VBA, and some SQL querying logic

Our internship

The Schonfeld summer internship provides students with a unique opportunity to experience Schonfeld, our work, our people, and our culture.

Each summer intern will work on a tailored project that will provide them with real world experience.  We provide all interns with a dedicated mentor and manager to help them navigate the summer successfully. Interns will also participate in our learning program, the Sapphire: Summer Session, which aims to provide tangible skills training and education on various functions across the firm and in the workplace. Along with the hands-on guidance and support from managers and mentors, interns will participate in weekly networking events, engage with our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alliance, attend panel discussions, and have many opportunities to get to know Schonfeld’s core values in practice.

The annual base pay for this role is expected to be between $45,000 and $52,000 which will be prorated based on internship start and end date. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications and experience and level of education.
