As a Data Engineering Lead in Commercial Data Lake in AbbVie Business Technology Solutions (BTS), you’ll have opportunities to contribute to the digital transformation of a leading biopharma company, helping to create solutions that impact patients and their communities for the better.

The Data Engineering Lead directs, manages, plans and administers the operational and technical activities associated with the end to end Data Products & Analytics solution delivery to support Patient Services function. This role will be responsible for setting goals & strategies and for managing a Database Engineering team that defines and maintains data architecture & data models, defines and enforces design standards & guidelines, builds and manages data pipelines, data structures & services, supports rolls out and operations of data products & solutions spanning multiple database platforms, technologies and applications.

In this role, you'll be responsible for:

• Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
• Acts as primary point of contact for the cross functional teams including the business stakeholders, Program/Project managers, external agencies and partners, technical architects and development team, taking accountability for end-to-end data products delivery and to maintain the delivery excellence.
• Leads and manages demand planning, delivery prioritization, team onboarding & resource management, facilitates requirements refinement with business, functional & technical teams. Ability to articulate technical design and constraints with stakeholder team, including non-technical audience, and to proactively communicate project progress status, risks and mitigation plan with leadership team.
• Provides thoughtful leadership and clear direction to Database Engineering team for data discovery, data profiling, technical design, data architecture & modeling, functional testing & user acceptance testing strategy, deployment, hyper care and transition to operations. Champion continuous improvement mindset with the team, with clearly defining and implementing delivery performance measurement and improvement plans.
• Responsible for all aspects of people leadership; setting expectations, coaching, counseling, developing, evaluating, feedback, hiring, discipline and separations. Determine necessary mix of skill set. Shows leadership skills in managing multi-vendor onsite and offshore teams, and for setting clear expectations with the engineering team to deliver high quality products.
• Supports those who initiate change and take risks. Sets standards and technical roadmap for database platforms, data products & solutions. Provides advice and counsel regarding effective system utilization to meet business requirements.
• Oversee and control department budgets: develop, monitor and meet expense and recovery plans; continually look for opportunities for cost reductions and cost avoidance. Manage IT investment for the functional component.
• Exhibits matured interpersonal skills and deals with employees issues and conflicts in a constructive and timely manner. Responsible for overall morale of team and promotes cohesive attitude. Establishes staffing/resource plans, determining appropriate mix of sourcing opportunities (outsourcing, offshoring and hot skills).
• Responsible for overall organizational effectiveness. Establish and maintain high-quality relationships with all levels across the company and with external partners.

**This role will require 3 days in the Mettawa office. Candidates who are not local or within a commutable distance would be expected to relocate.

Qualifications

What makes you a strong candidate for this role? 

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree with 8 years’ experience; Master's Degree with 7 years’ experience; PhD with 3 years’ experience.
• Proven experience in data products delivery that include project management, supervisory experience, employee development, strong technical experience and strategic systems planning.
• Hands on experience with big data technologies EMR, S3, Spark, PySpark, Hue, BI tools like PowerBI, Datorama, and knowledge of data analytics capabilities using Python, R etc.
• Hands on experience with Cloud data technologies like Snowflake, ETL tools like Informatica IICS
• Excellent data profiling and data analytical skills to understand the business value of data and to generate valuable insights from data to support the informed business decision making.
• Experience on data cataloging and data lineage tools like Alation, Manta etc.
• Hands on experience on Agile delivery methodology, Scrum / Kanban frameworks and agile project management tools like JIRA, Confluence etc.

Preferred:

• Proven track record of delivering a collection of projects and products for a portfolio size of about $5M.
• Experience with Service Operations in a multi-sourced and multi-project environment.
• Passion for resolving critical business problems with factual data.
• Work experience in marketing analytics and reporting.
• Work experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
