Overview

The Human Interaction (HI) Lab in the Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education at Utah State University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Scientist (Postdoctoral Fellow I) to join our team. The overarching goal of the HI Lab is to improve communication for people with neurological speech disorders: https://www.humaninteractionlab.com/ The Postdoc will be involved in projects studying communication partner training and interaction behaviors in the conversations of people with Parkinson’s disease. This is a highly transdisciplinary line of research, and the successful candidate will work with a research team that includes experts in communication, speech pathology, statistics, and speech signal processing. The Postdoc will play a key role in managing day-to-day project needs related to recruitment, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination of results. This is a 24-month postion (with the opportunity to extend) and will be primarily supervised by Dr. Stephanie Borrie but will also involve mentorship and collaboration from Drs. Tyson Barrett, Kaitlin Lansford, and Sarah Leopold.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (e.g., Speech Pathology, Linguistics, Psychology, or a related discipline) by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated productivity in terms of published peer reviewed journal articles and scientific conference presentations.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to effectively handle day-to-day research operations and coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis techniques, with experience in speech signal processing being beneficial but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to contribute to research publications and collaborate with team members effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research team environment.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in programming and software development, preferably in languages such as R, Python, MATLAB, or C/C++.
  • Experience preparing grant applications and reports.
